Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Betsy, our usually unobservant Queen of the Damned, noticed something fitting for her Antichrist sister Laura. What ability did Laura have, that made sense for a person prophesied to take over the world?

Answer: she knew every single language on Earth

Betsy was meeting up with Laura at her (Betsy's) favorite place, the Mall of America. They were trying to mend the awkwardness of their relationship that had begun when Laura tried to kill Betsy. No harsh feelings, right? What else could you expect from the Antichrist? Laura was addicted to the Tiger Balls at Tiger Sushi, and Betsy was, as usual, addicted to shoes. This addiction to shoes is prominent in every "Undead" book. It was at the mall Betsy noticed Laura speaking Tagalog (which Betsy referred to as "Tagalong") and sign language. Ding, ding, ding ... hello, Betsy. The Antichrist would need to be able to communicate with any/all people she encountered to take over the world. Tagalog is spoken in the Philippines.

Laura could not teleport, so no corrections please. She did have the ability to use her hellfire sword to open a door out of time to get back into hell's waiting room.
2. Betsy introduced Laura to cinema versions of Satan, including Al Pacino's version in "The Devil's Advocate".

Answer: True

Laura had never watched any movies that depicted versions of her own mother. She'd felt it would be disrespectful to her adoptive parents, who were devout Christians. So, Betsy showed her "The Omen", "Rosemary's Baby", and "The Devil's Advocate". They women both agreed that Al Pacino was an incredible Satan. In hindsight, maybe this was one of Betsy's worst ideas.
3. What did Betsy have to sacrifice in order to get Satan to reappear, so that she and Laura could visit hell?

Answer: Valentino pumps

When Satan first appeared. she was wearing Stuart Weitzman stilettos worth half a million dollars. She made Betsy so angry, Betsy attacked her with the "Book of the Dead" stand. She broke it over Satan's body. When the time came to visit Hell, not too long later, Betsy was surprised to find the stand still broken.

She also hadn't seen Tina or Sinclair in a while. How is it that this (not seeing important people for awhile) never seems to alarm her too much? Satan forgave Betsy her violence, but warned her she would "know" what to do to get her back when the time came.

When Betsy decided to ride into hell with Laura, she realized she'd have to sacrifice something big. It was her never-before-worn pair of couture black-lace Valentino pumps. She told Laura that they'd go with everything, cost almost $1000 and took her a year to save for. So, if they went with everything, how come she'd never worn them? The sacrifice worked, and off to hell they went.
4. Welcome to Hell, Nature's other beehive. Once down below, which American serial killer did Antonia point out to Laura?

Answer: Ted Bundy

Antonia "The Ant" Taylor was working as Satan's right hand woman. She showed Laura and Betsy around hell while Satan handled some other business. There were little rooms of torment, all unique to the damned soul within, all over the place. Betsy felt it was much like the din of a beehive. Though they thought Betsy couldn't hear them talking, she did hear her step-mother tell her half-sister that Ted Bundy was right there taking his endless dose of justified torment. Let's just say his punishment fit his crimes.

Gary Ridgway was best known as the Green River Killer. John Wilkes Booth and Ken Lay were also spotted by Betsy in hell.
5. On their very first time traveling romp, where and when did Betsy and Laura end up?

Answer: Salem, Massachusetts in 1692

The women ended smack dab in the middle of the Salem Witch Trials! They attempted a hasty retreat back to hell, but at the last minute Betsy decided she wanted a little justice for these falsely accused "witches". She saved a woman named Caroline Hutchinson who'd been accused of using witchcraft to make the locals' dairy goods spoil. Betsy informed the ignorant congregation that it was a lack of refrigeration that caused them to spoil.

She did a fair job of smacking down the Reverend William Putnam before she and Laura went back to Hell's waiting room. Putnam is a rather famous name from the time of the witch trials. Caroline turned out to be a person important in Tina's life much later in the time line.
6. There is just no getting out of Hell! Forced to try another time doorway inside Hell's waiting room, Betsy and Laura found themselves face to face with a young King Eric Sinclair and his twin sister.

Answer: True

The twins were just a day away from the family's move to Minnesota. Eric and Erin showed no fear of the strangers they encountered in the barn. The ladies discovered, in their brief conversation with the youngsters, that Tina had been a friend of the family known as Aunt Tina, and not the stranger Betsy had originally believed her to be to Eric.

She always thought that Tina turning Eric (into a vampire) had been a chance encounter, but apparently that had not been true at all. No wonder Eric was thoroughly irritated by his wife's lack of personal interest in his life before her.

The twins left the barn and the sisters beat a hasty retreat back to the wretched waiting room. Eric later told Betsy that he and Erin never forgot her, and that his mom had told them about Tina's true nature.

His mom had said that Tina was their "dark angel". Dark indeed.
7. During one of the Hell detours, who did Betsy have to convince to turn someone into a vampire?

Answer: Tina

Betsy knew that Tina had turned Eric. She knew that Eric had woken unusually strong and focused, instead of spending five to ten years ravenous and useless. It was around this time, the time of the funeral of Eric's entire family, that Betsy began to realize they'd already been living inside a messed up time line.

She knew Tina was going to walk away, instead of changing Eric. After she convinced the tiny vampire she had to change Eric, Betsy realized she had to bite him first so he'd wake up strong and useful to Tina. Betsy was finally getting a clue! Tina had always accepted her without question, and never once tried to usurp Betsy's reign for her own gain. Tina had known all along that Betsy was who she was prophesied to be - Queen.
8. The women had spent enough time in the past, changing it and so forth, and their last door in the waiting room was into the future. Which of the choices is NOT true about the future they witnessed?

Answer: Tina was now Queen and Betsy was her minion

The entire time spent in the future was completely disturbing. Though I wondered at the wisdom of Betsy undoing her entire early vampiric experience with Nick Berry, I could understand her need to heal that wound. She was already feeling entirely guilty for her lack of interest in, well, everyone else. Jump to the future, the snowy world of the year 3010, and everything felt totally sickening.

There was NO sign of either Eric or Tina in the future. BabyJon was all grown up, but still looked like a young man.

He would not reveal the reason for this, as the future Betsy had anticipated the arrival of herself and Laura and instructed him not to tell. Marc was an awful vampire, who Past Betsy knew needed to be killed immediately. Apparently, Future Betsy had held him in a coffin for 50 years! He'd gone insane, though she had not expected it to happen. Betsy did turn the tables on Future Betsy, by splitting up with Laura and going off script.

In the end, though, it did not really seem to matter. Future Betsy had already explained to her younger self that she'd tried to change this outcome and failed. I personally wouldn't count Past Betsy out too soon.

The future is not set, right? "Terminator" has proved that to us, which Betsy and Laura even discussed in this book.
9. When Betsy finally got back to her own time line, did she discover her best friend Jessica pregnant?

Answer: Yes

Having undone the dreadful experience for Nick Berry, and sending him after Jessica, things in the present were new. Things had definitely changed. Nick and Jessica were a happy couple, not married, and expecting a baby in about three more months. Nick adored Betsy instead of hating her for what she, Tina and Eric had done to him. Tina and Eric knew Betsy had to take a journey into Hell, but Tina did not know what had been real before her trip (in regards to that whole Nick Berry ordeal). Tina was surprised at Betsy's surprise that Nick was fond of her now.
10. In perhaps the most disturbing twist of all, who turned out to be the author of the "Book of the Dead"?

Answer: Betsy

After her past self and past sister left 3010, Future Betsy told Future Laura that she was ready to have her husband back. Laura dropped a book onto her desk and informed her sister it had taken a lot longer to "skin and bind" the vampire king than she'd expected! She spent 75 years getting that job accomplished and she told Betsy he'd never made a sound once in all that time! What? No way! Betsy dipped her pen in blood and began recounting the past 1000 years onto the skin of the man she used to love. MaryJanice Davidson, tell me you have a plan in mind to stop this from truly coming to pass.
