Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sir William was to be "hung by the neck until dead" for the theft of a chalice and for what?

Answer: blasphemy

He claimed to be from a land of sun. He was framed for the chalice, however....SOMEONE slipped it into his saddlebags. Nasty Druids.
2. When guards dare to approach the specter (Thomas) at the gallows, he says "You shall become blind as____" and waves his hand, sending acid out of his sleeve. In a few seconds, how blind will they be?

Answer: trees

I love all the stuff Thomas has up his sleeve...literally! Acid AND flame come out. All he has to do to get the acid to come out is wave his arm. Flame is a little more difficult: a tube runs up his arm to a pig bladder. He squeezes the bladder, sending lighter fluid out. As it goes by, Thomas uses flint to create a spark, thus igniting the fluid.
3. What was Thomas supposed to do to earn Sir William's trust?

Answer: Show up in the specter outfit with the gold from the mayor

In reality, all Thomas did was show up as Mr. Specter. He never did bring the gold.
4. The Phantom who came to pick up the bribe from the mayor was to arrive at midnight. Which bells signaled this time?

Answer: Matins

Compline is 9:00 P.M., None is 3:00 P.M., and Sext is 12:00 P.M. Of course, the Phantom had to come at midnight; everybody knows (or should) that all self-respecting ghosts and the like arrive at midnight.
5. What road do the party of conquerors travel down to get to Magnus?

Answer: Wade's Causeway

During this time, Sir William finds out two things: Tiny John is a very good pickpocket, and the girl is "of the symbol"...otherwise known as a Druid. Tiny John lifts her locket (with the symbol on it) and shows it to Sir William.
6. True....or false? This is the prophesy Thomas had to fulfill: "Delivered on the wings of an eagle, he shall free us from oppression."

Answer: False

It was "Delivered on the wings of an ANGEL, he shall free us from oppression." That prophesy was spread specifically for Thomas to fulfill, although anyone with the right knowledge (a Merlin or a Druid) could fulfill it.
7. Thomas went back to the abbey to get money and stand up to the twisted clergy one more time. All four monks had secrets that they didn't want known to the other three. What hidden secret did Brother Walter possess?

Answer: He was a warlock, or male witch

Brother Fredrick had the wool, Brother Philip stood by and did nothing, and Prior Jack wheezed sideways through doorways. Brother Walter's "sorcery" never worked anyway. Thomas heard him quite often during the night, howling from failure.
8. After the guards take Thomas and Sir William to the dungeon, they escape after about a week in prison. How did they get out?

Answer: Tiny John lifted the key from the guards and Katherine made a copy of it

Tiny John sneaked up on the jail's guard and ran back to the candleshop. Katherine quickly made the copy, gave it to Tiny John, and he replaced the original key before the guard went back to the dungeon. The pickpocket then pestered the living daylights out of the guards to get them to chase him and put him in prison. Saying that he stole some jewelery from Thomas and Sir William and they'd rip him apart if he got put in with them, he promptly got tossed in their cell, only to escape that night.
9. Where did Thomas get his idea for the wings from the prophesy?

Answer: Marco Polo

Thomas has books to instruct him in the arts of war, leadership, chemistry, hostile takeovers, non-hostile takeovers (basically, an overall general, Medieval education), etc. Marco Polo wrote one in which he noted the Chinese tradition of "sending a man aloft in the winds before a ship sailed." Based on this, he created a giant kite to be his angel wings from the prophesy.*

*For more information on the prophesy, see Interesting Information in Question 6.
10. Thomas has conquered Magnus, but at a great price, Katherine is dead. He loved her and now his heart is broken. *sniff*

Answer: False

Ah, quit your cryin'; she's not dead! Thomas says when he finds out that she's gone and thinks she's dead (she's not) "We cannot forsake the kingdom of Magnus for one person" thinking she's dead at the time. Thanks for taking my quiz!
