Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who plays the First Avenger?

Answer: Chris Evans

Captain America, or the First Avenger, is played by Chris Evans. Evans stars in multiple movies, including the other Marvel movie "The Fantastic Four" (2005) and its sequel as Johnny Storm, or the Human Torch. He also appears in movies such as "Cellular" (2004), "The Nanny Diaries" (2007) "Push" (2009), and "What's Your Number?" (2011).
2. When is most of the film set?

Answer: World War II

The film begins in modern times, then flashes back to when most of the movie is set, which is during the end of World War II in Europe. This is shown throughout the film as it discusses Nazis and Adolf Hitler. In addition, there are elements of the movie that are included to establish the time period, including the type of vehicles used and the characters' outfits.
3. Because of his multiple attempts to join the army, Steve was in danger of being arrested.

Answer: True

When the German Dr. Erskine talks to Steve after he tries to enlist at the World Exposition, he makes mention that Steve has had five exams in five different cities. Under ordinary circumstances, Steve could very well be arrested for falsifying his enlistment form. Thankfully for Steve, Erskine doesn't want to arrest him, but instead gives him a chance.
4. Why does Dr. Abraham Erskine choose Steve to be part of the super soldier program?

Answer: Because he understands compassion and the value of strength

After Steve is chosen to undergo the procedure to make him a super soldier, he asks Erskine why he was chosen. Erskine explains that a strong man can lose respect for his power, but a weak man knows the value of strength and knows compassion. It was definitely not because Steve had passed all the physical tests.
5. Steve is the only person who ever experienced the serum.

Answer: False

Johann Schmidt, otherwise known as Red Skull, makes Dr. Erskine give him some of the serum, even though it is not ready. As a result, while he does become stronger, the serum also amplifies all that is bad in Schmidt, making him worse.
6. In what area of New York City is the serum experiment conducted? It's also the area where Steve was from.

Answer: Brooklyn

When Steve and Agent Peggy Carter are being driven to the place where the experiment is to be held, Steve points out all the places he was beat up, since he knows the neighborhood. Also, this is noted when Colonel Phillips is talking to Senator Brandt, since the Senator asks why he is in Brooklyn.
7. What is the power source for the weapons of HYDRA?

Answer: A tesseract

Johann Schmidt discovers the tesseract, which is from legend, in Norway at the beginning of the film. He then uses Dr. Zola to harness the energy in the tesseract to power his weapons. The use of the tesseract, or Cosmic Cube, as it is known in the Marvel universe, ties the movie to "Thor".
8. What does Senator Brandt say when Steve agrees to campaign to sell war bonds?

Answer: "You just got promoted."

Colonel Phillips does not want to bring Steve with him when they are going to fight HYDRA in Europe. Instead, he tells Steve that he is an experiment, and needs to stay in a lab. In response to this, Senator Brandt offers Steve a chance to help his country on the "most important battlefield". Little does Steve know, he would be part of a sales show, not actually out fighting.
9. Why does Captain America go behind enemy lines the first time?

Answer: To save his friend, Bucky

Upon finding out that his most recent audience for the show was what was left of a team from the 107th Division, the same division his best friend Bucky shipped out to join, Steve goes to find out if his friend is still alive. The Colonel says he's probably dead, and he is not going to organize a rescue mission to save the other prisoners because it's too dangerous.

In response, Steve goes against orders and goes in on his own to try and save his friend and any others he can.
10. What is Captain America's shield made from?

Answer: Vibranium

The shield was not originally on the list of the ones Howard Stark was offering to Steve, since it was just a prototype. Stark claims that it is "stronger than steel, and a third the weight". It absorbs all vibrations, too, but unfortunately the shield is all they have of the metal, since it is the "rarest metal on Earth".

Naturally, Steve chooses that one, and it becomes quite a handy weapon for Captain America.
11. How does Captain America know where all the HYDRA weapons bases are?

Answer: A map in Dr. Zola's office

While rescuing his friend, Bucky, Captain America notices a map that has several triangular pins on it, marking various areas. He correctly assumes that those are HYDRA bases and is able to reproduce where they are located on a map, once back in England.
12. Due to the effects of the serum, Steve cannot get drunk.

Answer: True

After Bucky dies, Peggy finds Steve in a destroyed bar, drinking. He tells her that Dr. Erskine told him that the serum affected his cells as well as his muscles, causing there to be a "protective system of regeneration and healing". Because of that, he is unable to get drunk, though it would appear that he tried.
13. How does Steve know the "recovery room" in New York he woke up in is a sham?

Answer: He recognizes the baseball game that is playing on the radio.

After Steve has been found in the ice and thawed out, the agents of S.H.I.E.D. create a 1940s-esque room for him to wake up in, trying to break the news to him gently. He recognizes the baseball game they have playing on their radio, however, since he was there, and questions the "nurse" who is sent in about where he is at.
14. What is Captain America's last line in the movie, not counting the post-credits scene?

Answer: "I had a date."

After he escapes from the S.H.I.E.L.D. building, then is surrounded by SUVs and talks to Nick Fury, he appears to be taking in all the changes to New York City while he was asleep. Then Fury asks him if he is going to be alright, and Steve says he will be, then says, "I had a date." That is also the last line in the movie, again not counting the post-credits scene.
15. In the post-credits scene, what is Steve doing when Nick Fury walks up to him?

Answer: Beating up a punching bag

Once the credits have all cycled through, there is a scene at the end and a trailer for "The Avengers" following it. When the scene begins, Steve is hitting a punching bag, his strikes becoming faster until he punches the bag right off of its chain. Fury then walks up, and basically implies that he wants to recruit Captain America for the Avengers Initiative.
