Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A spell was cast upon me, which turned me into a hideous looking person. Who voiced me?

Answer: Robby Benson

Benson, born on January 21st, 1956 in Dallas, Texas, voiced the Beast. The Beast was introduced in the film as a selfish prince who one day had a spell cast on him for turning away someone who asked for his assistance. The spell turned him into an ugly person and could only be broken if he learned to love and was loved in return.

He had until his 21st birthday to shatter the spell or else it would be permanent. The spell came in the form of a rose which wilted away as the spell progressed. The Beast lived in a desolate castle which had a gloomy and melancholy appearance. Throughout the movie, he had a tumultuous relationship with a woman named Belle and it was her love for him and his love for her that allowed him to break the spell.

Some of the characters who lived in his castle had names such as Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and more.

The final scene showed the Beast, now transformed back into the Prince, and Belle sharing a dance. Benson starred in the films "Just a Dream", "Modern Love" and "White Hot".
2. I wore a beautiful yellow dress for my first dance with the Beast. Who voiced me?

Answer: Paige O'Hara

O'Hara, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, lent her voice to Belle. Belle lived in a cottage in a French town with her father and had an affinity for reading. She came upon the Beast's castle one day when she went looking for her father after he went missing.

It turned out that the Beast had imprisoned Belle's father in his castle. Belle offered to take her father's place as the Beast's prisoner so her father could be released. The Beast acquiesced to her request. When Belle stayed at the castle, Beast warned her to steer clear of the west wing. Belle went there one day and was shocked to find a torn picture of how the Beast looked before the spell was placed upon him.

The Beast found her there and yelled at her to get out. As Belle fled the castle, a bunch of wolves attacked her but the Beast saved her in time.

When she took him back to tend to him, they got into an argument and Belle made it clear to him that he needed to control his temper. She also thanked him for saving her life and he said she was welcome.

After that scene, the Beast softened towards Belle and they fell in love. O'Hara lent her voice to Belle in subsequent projects like "Belle's Magical World", "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas" and "Beauty and the World of Music".
3. I nearly killed the Beast but it was I who fell to my death. Who voiced me?

Answer: Richard White

White, born in 1953 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, voiced Gaston. Gaston was described as a handsome man who liked to hunt. He was also smitten with Belle but she would not return his desire of a relationship with her. At the end of the movie, Gaston rallied up a bunch of members of the village to kill the Beast.

The members of the Beast's castle saw Gaston and his cohorts storm onto their ground so they prepared to do battle. Gaston and the Beast came face to face and fought. During their fight, the Beast grabbed Gaston's throat and hung him off the side of the castle, and Gaston said he would do anything the Beast wanted if he would release him.

The Beast brought him back over the ledge and instructed Gaston to get out. Just then, Belle came to the Beast and they embraced but it was during their embrace that Gaston stabbed the Beast with a knife.

The Beast then swung at Gaston, which caused him to slip off the side of the castle and fall to his death. White's other credits included lending his voice of Gaston for the TV show "House of Mouse" and guest starring on the TV show "Great Performances".
4. Belle went to my bookstore to pick up a particular book, which I allowed her to keep. Who voiced me?

Answer: Alvin Epstein

Epstein lent his voice for the minor role of the bookseller. In the opening sequence, Belle traveled to town and went to the bookstore to get a book. The bookseller there said hello to her and asked which book she wanted to read and Belle showed him the book.

He remarked how she had already read it twice but Belle replied that it was her favorite novel. The bookseller then said she could keep it so Belle thanked him. Epstein starred in the movies "Beacon Hill", "Alma Mater" and "Never Met Picasso".
5. I was an inventor. Who voiced me?

Answer: Rex Everhart

Everhart, born on June 13th, 1920 in Watseka, Illinois, voiced Maurice. Maurice was Belle's father and made his living off of inventions. His latest invention was a wood chopping machine which he was going to show the townsfolk at a fair but he got lost on his way to the fair.

He wound up at the Beast's castle and was taken prisoner. Maurice was released after Belle agreed to be the Beast's prisoner in place of her father. Near the end of the movie, Gaston and his men bullied Maurice when he told them about the Beast and then tried to cart him off to a mental institution. Belle showed up with a mirror in her hand which had magic powers to show Gaston and his men an image of the Beast to prove her father was not lying when he said he saw the Beast. Everhart had parts in the films "Friday the 13th", "Superman" and "Family Business".
6. I appointed myself as the authority figure on fashion at the Beast's castle. Who voiced me?

Answer: Jo Ann Worley

Worley, a native of Lowell, Indiana, lent her voice to Wardrobe. Wardrobe, as her name implies, loved clothes and appointed herself as the expert on all matters of fashion. When the Beast invited Belle to join him for dinner, Wardrobe asked Belle if she would like to pick out one of her outfits but Belle said she was not interested. Wardrobe was seen lending a hand in the final battle in fighting off Gaston's men and therefore helping to protect the castle.

In one instance, she leaped on one of Gaston's men, squashing him. Worley guest starred on the TV series "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch", "Boy Meets World" and "Kim Possible".
7. The spell did not just affect the Beast. It transformed me into a candelabra. Who voiced me?

Answer: Jerry Orbach

Orbach, born in 1935 in New York City, voiced the character of Lumiere in "Beauty and the Beast". Lumiere was first seen when Maurice entered the castle to avoid wolves chasing him. When Maurice grabbed for the candelabra, he was surprised to see that Lumiere was a real person and freaked out. Lumiere encouraged the Beast on many occasions to be nice to Belle since she could be the woman to break the spell. Midway through the film, Lumiere helped prepare a meal for Belle against the backdrop of the popular song, "Be Our Guest". During the fight at the castle between the castle residents and Gaston's men, Lumiere was seen burning one of Gaston's men.

After the spell broke, Lumiere transformed into his old self again and was in attendance at Belle and Beast/Prince's final dance. Orbach starred in the TV shows "Law and Order", "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" and "Homicide: Life on the Street".
8. At the end of the movie, I asked my mom if I had to continue to sleep in the cupboard. Who voiced me?

Answer: Bradley Pierce

Pierce lent his voice to the character of Chip. Chip was a tiny teacup, via the spell, and befriended Belle when she resided at the castle. There was one occasion when Chip's mother, Mrs. Potts, poured Belle a drink into Chip and advised him to walk slowly to deliver the drink to Belle to prevent spilling. Belle had the drink from Chip and thanked him. Midway through the movie, Chip and his mom observed Belle and the Beast share a dance and it was after the dance that she told him to go to bed in the cupboard. Chip transformed back into a young boy after the spell broke and asked his mom during Belle and Beast/the Prince's final dance if he had to continue sleeping in the cupboard. Chip's mom simply laughed at the question. Pierce portrayed characters in the films "Jumanji", "The Borrowers" and "Man's Best Friend".
9. I sang a song while Belle and Beast shared their first dance. Who voiced me?

Answer: Angela Lansbury

Lansbury, born on October 16th, 1925 in London, England, voiced Mrs. Potts. Mrs. Potts was a teapot and always looked out for Chip after he was transformed into a tiny teacup. Like Cogsworth, Chip, Lumiere, and other castle residents, she befriended Belle and hoped she would be the one to break the spell. Midway through the movie, Belle and Beast shared a dance and Mrs. Potts sang the song, "Beauty and the Beast", while they danced (this song won the film the Best Original Song Academy Award at the 1992 Oscars ceremony). Mrs. Potts watched with Cogsworth and Lumiere as the final rose petal fell, fearing that meant the spell was permanent.

However, as Belle professed her love to Beast right before the petal fell, the spell broke and Mrs. Potts and the others transformed back into their original selves. Lansbury was in the films "Bedknobs and Broomsticks", "Nanny McPhee" and "The Pirates of Penzance".

In 1963, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for "The Manchurian Candidate" but lost to Patty Duke for "The Miracle Worker".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress that year were Mary Badham for "To Kill a Mockingbird", Shirley Knight for "Sweet Bird of Youth" and Thelma Ritter for "Birdman of Alcatraz".
10. Lumiere told me when Belle first entered the castle that she was the woman who would break the spell. Who voiced me?

Answer: David Ogden Stiers

Stiers, a native of Peoria, Illinois, lent his voice to Cogsworth. Cogsworth transformed into a clock from the spell and Maurice was surprised when he saw him. He picked Cogsworth up and injured him by adjusting a knob on his backside. Lumiere and Cogsworth were talking amongst themselves in one scene when Lumiere noticed Belle walking through the castle.

He claimed to Cogsworth that she was the one who would break the spell. Cogsworth befriended Belle and took her for a tour of the castle. During the tour, Belle managed to escape Cogsworth's sight and headed to the forbidden west wing of the castle.

In the final scene of the movie, Cogsworth and Lumiere argued as to who was the first to rightfully claim Belle would break the spell. Stiers guest starred on the TV shows "Stargate: Atlantis", "Frasier" and "Arli$$".
