quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm a bright, multi-colored bird, living in a desert world with a genie, rug, a boy and a girl. Although I am able to talk, sometimes I just prefer to squawk! Who am I?

Answer: Iago

Iago gets his name from the despicable villain in Shakespeare's 'Othello'. Pago Pago is located in American Samoa, and what is the number one name for a parrot in English?
2. My story begins in the heart of the jungle with adventures my friend George never fails to bungle. I have sleek black feathers on my back and boy do I ever love to yack!

Answer: Tookie

Toucan Sam is the registered trademark character for Kellogg's Fruit Loops, who follows his nose. A Lavalava is a garment men wear in many tropical places, Krakatoa was a volcano in Indonesia that erupted in 1883 and killed 30,000 people and eradicated the island on which it was located.
3. My job is taking care of royalty and to Mufasa's family I pledge loyalty. Raising a prince is not easy but it's dodging hyenas that makes me uneasy!

Answer: Zazu

Zazu's voice was brilliantly done by Rowan Atkinson aka Mr. Bean and Blackadder. One of the funny moments is when he's forced to work for Scar and he sings 'Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen' and then he's asked to sing something else, and he sings, 'It's a small world after all!'
4. We're part of Mowgli's search in the animal kingdom for true friends who'd never leave him. We sing as though we were born in Liverpool and we're just a bunch of cultured _____________?

Answer: Vultures

My personal favorite is Baloo and the 'Bear necessities' of life. But this film had some other fun moments. The vultures' harmony and their Liverpudlian accents were quite well done I thought.
5. To Jane and Michael Banks we'd like to express our thanks. They took the time to feed the birds and give the lady a few kind words! What sort of birds are we?

Answer: Pigeons

'Feed the birds, tuppence a bag!' Despite my British friends' dislike for Dick Van Dyke's Cockney accent, this film was full of magic for me! Between the pastels on the sidewalk that you could jump into, being able to snap your fingers and clean your room, flying, feeding the birds, and most of all flying a kite, what more could a seven-year-old girl want in a film? Mary Poppins was a bit stern though! Try to find the P.L. Travers' original book, it's very good but quite different.
6. I'm a classic Disney bird, there's no doubt though I'm a bit of a grouch we can work things out. Here's a clue, I'm not an owl and my temper's often fowl!

Answer: Donald Duck

Though you might have been tempted by my other poultry friends, they are all Looney Tunes, so try our other quiz here at QL's kid's section if you prefer those. Donald's name in French is simply Donald but in Italian he is Paperino or little duck.
7. Though I am just a tiny green bird, with me Pocahontas keeps her word. We travel with Nakoma and Meeko throughout the land in case she ever needs a hand. What sort of bird am I?

Answer: A hummingbird

Flit is the hummingbird and Meeko is a raccoon of course. Hummingbirds apparently have the fastest heartbeat in the bird family. And they must eat an enormous amount of food in comparison to their body weight to keep it going!
8. I am one of Winnie's wise old friends, deep in the hundred acres wood, where the fun never ends!

Answer: Owl

The Goddess Minerva always had an Owl. Eeyore an owl? Archimedes is the owl named for a famous Greek Philosopher, therefore the name chosen for Merlin's companion in 'The Sword and the Stone'.
9. Here's a bird's name that you might scream when cheering on a hockey team!

Answer: The Mighty Ducks

The ultimate Disney hockey film. My apologies to my Torontonian friends, that was just a joke.
10. I'm a busy old bird when I'm counting my money, though my three young nephews find me funny. 'Are you waiting for the deluge? You can't take it with you Unca_______________!'

Answer: Scrooge

Scrooge's name in French is funny, it's Picsou, this means to hold on or steal the money. The cartoon books available in the shops are named for him. Huey, Dewie and Louie are not only very hard for French people to pronounce, but their French names are Rifi, Fifi and Loulou! Julian, Sylvie and I hope you've enjoyed it.

The concept was Sylvie's, Julian worked hard at scouting around, and everyone pitched in on the rhymes!
