Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During one of Frank's flashbacks to 1963, we see Frank lying on a blanket on the beach and Eddie talking to him. Finish this verse that Eddie says, "What I want is songs that echo. The stuff we're doing now is like somebody's bedsheets; spread 'em out, soil 'em, ship 'em out to laundry, you know? But our songs...I want us to be able to _________________________________ forever, understand? That's the most you'll ever get out of me Wordman. Ever."

Answer: fold ourselves up in them

This scene happened after Joann saw and heard Frank playing the piano at Tony Marts. Eddie went to talk to Frank, who was lying on a blanket on the beach. The conversation was one-sided, with Eddie doing all the talking. Leaning over Frank, Eddie said, "What I want is songs that echo. The stuff we're doing now is like somebody's bedsheets; spread 'em out, soil 'em, ship 'em out to laundry, you know? But our songs...I want us to be able to fold ourselves up in them forever, understand? That's the most you'll ever get out of me Wordman. Ever." After telling Frank this, Eddie then twisted his forefinger and middle finger on his right hand, and said "words and music."

Trivia tidbit: the scenes at the beach were filmed in Ocean City, New Jersey, next to the Music Pier.
2. While seeing Sal Amato and his version of the Cruisers, the Eddie Wilson lookalike performed "Tender Years," which led Frank to have another flashback...a flashback of the time that Eddie taught him how to play the keyboard, his way.

Answer: False

While at the El Marko Room, Frank sees and hears Sal's lookalike Eddie Wilson singing "On The Darkside," and remembers the time when, on a rooftop in Somer's Point, New Jersey, Eddie taught him how to play the keyboard...his way.

In the 1963 flashback, Frank is playing a song he wrote, entitled "On The Darkside," but he is playing the music very slowly and singing as though he's under water. Seated around him were Sal, Kenny, Doc, Wendell, Joann, and Eddie was standing next to the keyboard, which was in the middle of the rooftop.

After what seemed like an excruciatingly long time, Frank finished the song. Eddie said, "not bad," much to Doc's consternation. Doc replied, "come on, the kid can't sing, he can't write, and he can't play," and Eddie replied, "he's got something we need...words and music." Then, after putting out his cigarette, Eddie said, "Now, let's get on with the music," and began showing Frank how to play the keyboard. Eddie was playing on one side of the keyboard, and when he was finished one section of the song, Frank copied what Eddie did on the other side. It took a couple of times before Frank got it right, and when he did Joann grabbed her tambourines, Wendell began playing the saxophone, and Eddie made Sal play the guitar and Kenny the drums.

Trivia tidbit: the rooftop where they rehearsed "On The Darkside" for the first time belonged to the Anchorage Bar in Somer's Point, New Jersey.
3. Which song did Frank perform an extremely long ending to?

Answer: Tender Years

Immediately following the practice session on the rooftop, the next scene we see is of the Cruisers performing in Tony Marts. They perform "Wild Summer Nights," much to their fans liking, and when the song was over, they went on to play "Tender Years." The song went over huge with the fans, but after Eddie finished singing the song, Frank kept on playing keyboard.

It seemed he didn't know when or how to end the song. Seeing that Eddie couldn't do anything but stand at the microphone with his head down, waiting for the song to play, Wendell walked over to the keyboard and leaned against it, making Frank aware of his presence. Finally, Frank finished the song and the rest is history.
4. After Sal's show was finished, Frank went to his dressing room to talk to him. Sal was so happy to see Frank that they hugged, then Sal offered Frank a slice of pizza, but Frank kindly refused. However, Sal took a slice for himself and ate it while talking to Frank. What kind of pizza did Sal have?

Answer: Pepperoni

After Sal's show was finished, Frank went to the dressing room to talk to his old friend. Sal was ecstatic to see Frank, and they hugged. Then Sal offered Frank a slice of pizza, which Frank kindly refused, but which Sal took a slice for himself and ate as he and Frank talked.

They talked about Eddie and how Sal was anrgy at him for dying. Sal told Frank that he has dreams that Eddie is still alive and that he gets mad at him all over again. He said he was mad at him for living and that he's mad at him for dying.
5. After conversing with Sal, Frank goes back out to the bar and talks with Maggie, the reporter. Frank tells Maggie that prior to Eddie dying, the Cruisers had signed a contract for a new album. How much money was the contract for?

Answer: $50,000

After conversing with Sal, Frank goes back out to the bar and talks with Maggie, the reporter for Media Magazine. He tells her that prior to Eddie's death, the band had signed a $50,000 contract for a new album, with a $10,000 advance.
6. While talking to Maggie at the bar, Frank reminisces about the time the Cruisers played at his former college. What was the name of the college, and what was the name of the event that the college was hosting?

Answer: Benton College; Spring Madness 1963

Frank told Maggie that one-day, while going through a list of colleges in which they could play, one of them was his former college, Benton College. Frank told Maggie that he so desperately wanted to go there, and that the Cruisers acquiesced.

Flashing back to that time, we see Eddie driving, with Joann sitting snuggly against him, Sal in the front passenger seat, Frank in the rear right passenger seat, Kenny in the middle, and Wendell sitting in rear left passenger seat. Frank told everyone that the guys at Benton hadn't seen a girl in months, and that the girls that were walking around were brought in by the busload and truckload, and were called "cattle cars." Eddie drove the car to the on-campus house that the Cruisers were going to stay at, and a banner on the house read "Spring Madness 1963."
7. After pulling up to the on-campus house that they were staying at, the Cruisers got out of the car. Eddie leaned against the hood, with Joann leaning against him. Eddie asked Frank how they were supposed to dress for the event, and Frank told him that they should dress how they always dress. Eddie told Frank that they had never played a college like this, and Frank said yes they had. Finish the sentence that Eddie retaliates with: "Yeah, we played say something down in ________ and fairly ridiculous up in _______."

Answer: Delaware; Madison

Eddie told Frank, "Yeah, we played say something down in Delaware and fairly ridiculous up in Madison," because Frank told him that they had played plenty of colleges before. Eddie didn't like the idea of playing for an Ivy League college, and let it be known.

Later on that same day, we see Frank giving Joann a tour of the campus, and on the way back they kiss on the opposite side of the bonfire. Unbeknownst to them, Eddie, along with Sal and Kenny, see them kissing. When they finally get back to the house, Joann tells the gang that it will only take her a few minutes to get ready and goes in the house. When Frank says the same thing, Eddie tells him to stay dressed as he is, and when Frank resists, Eddie demands that he stay dressed as he is.
8. The night that the Cruisers play for Frank's old college, the auditorium is jammed packed and the crowd is going wild. Which song did the "College Rap" preclude?

Answer: Down On My Knees

The night that the Cruisers play for Frank's old college, the auditorium is jammed packed and the crowd is going wild. Eddie 'raps' with the college kids and then proceeds into the song "Down On My Knees" to a thunderous uproar from the fans.

Trivia tidbit: the auditorium that this concert scene was filmed at, was Mt. Holly High School, which is now called Rancocas Valley Regional High School, it's in Mt. Holly, New Jersey.
9. After performing the first song of the concert at Frank's college, Eddie introduces the Cruisers. What is the name that Eddie introduces Frank as?

Answer: Toby Tyler

After performing "Down On My Knees," Eddie introduces the Cruisers, and as he does so, he's interrupted by Keith Livingston, Frank's friend from college.

Eddie: "I wanna thank you people for making a scene. Show's gonna start now, I'm gonna come clean.

On drums, just going through a phase, Kenny Hopkins!"
"On sax, The Bruiser, Mr. Wendell Newton!"
"On bass, long, tall, Sally Amato!"
"And last, but not least, your favorite and mine, Joann Carlino!"
Keith:"Hey Eddie! You forgot somebody!"
Eddie: "Who'd I forget?"
Keith: "The guy on piano, Ridgeway!"
Eddie: "Oh! Oh yeah...on piano we got...uh...Toby Tyler! Stage name, show business, now in the crew. He's that little boy who ran away from home and joined the circus, isn't he? He snuck into the tent without a ticket, so he can see all the wild animals inside...the savage beasts, the clowns, the freaks! Let's hear it, everybody, for Toby Tyler!"

After introducing the Cruisers, Eddie went on to sing "Everytime I Get The Blues," and was almost pulled off stage and into the audience.

Trivia tidbit: The scenes at Benton College were really filmed in the auditorium of Mt. Holly High School, which has since been renamed Rancocas Valley Regional High School. Also, the scene where Eddie (Michael Pare) is almost pulled off stage wasn't supposed to happen. According to "16 Magazine" in 1983, the students at Mt. Holly thought that the band playing was a real band, and didn't know that the concert was for a movie. So, when they ambushed Eddie and almost pulled him off stage, it really happened. The director liked what he saw, and left it in the movie to make the scene more life like.
10. What kind of car did Eddie drive, and what was the color?

Answer: Teal 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

When Frank first met Eddie in 1962, Eddie drove a light blue 1957 Chevy Bel Air. It was the same car he was driving when he supposedly drove off the bridge to his death.
