Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Brigadier General Francis (Frank) Hummel led a group of Marines who took over Alcatraz Island in "The Rock" (1996). Although Frank's goal was to bring attention to how the government turned its back on veterans from covert operations, almost everyone else was in it for the money they hoped to extort from the government. Who played Frank in the movie?

Answer: Ed Harris

After the government failed to meet several deadlines for getting the money to them, Frank told his men that the mission was over, he had no intention of launching their rockets against civilians. The former Marines, now mercenaries, turned on Frank and set out to launch the rockets themselves. Fortunately John Mason and Stanley Goodspeed (Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage) were there to stop them. Ed Harris received Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominations for his work in "Apollo 13" (1995), "The Truman Show" (1998) and "The Hours" (2002), as well as a Best Actor nod for his portrayal of artist Jackson Pollock in "Pollock" (2000).
2. In which movie did Bill Murray play Frank Cross, a cynical executive for a television network?

Answer: Scrooged

Since Frank Cross was not a nice man, Christmastime for him brought three unexpected visitors, in the form of ghosts. These ghosts showed Frank happier times from his past, as well as some of the consequences of his actions in the present and in the future. "Scrooged" (1988), an updated version of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", also starred Karen Allen, Alfre Woodard and Bob Goldthwait, as well as Murray's three brothers, Joel Murray, John Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray.

Murray also played characters named Frank in "Osmosis Jones" (2001) and "Mad Dog and Glory (1993).
3. Al Pacino has played a few characters named Frank in his career. Which of them did he play in "Scent of a Woman" (1992)?

Answer: Frank Slade

Prep school student Charlie took a job over Thanksgiving as companion to the blind Lt. Col. Frank Slade, so he would have money to go home at Christmas. Slade was a bitter veteran who alienated everyone around him, but he and Charlie helped each other to see obstacles in their lives more clearly and deal with them. Al Pacino won a well-deserved Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Col. Frank Slade in "Scent of a Woman".

Pacino played Detective Frank Keller in "Sea of Love" (1989), and Officer Frank Serpico in "Serpico" (1973). Although his character in "Scarface" (1983) had the last name of Montana, the first name was Tony.
4. Frank Sinatra played a character who got together with his war buddies to pull off a casino heist, a character which was later reprised by George Clooney in a remake with the same title. Which character was this?

Answer: Danny Ocean

The 1960 film, starring Frank as Danny Ocean, had the war buddies planning to rob five Vegas casinos on New Year's Eve. They managed to steal the money, but chose the wrong place to put it for safekeeping. The 2001 film, which starred George Clooney as Danny Ocean, had criminal associates teaming up to rob the central vault of three Vegas casinos during a boxing match. Unlike the group in the 1960 film, this group was successful in their heist.
5. While living in Atlanta, Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) impersonated a doctor using the name Frank Conners, in "Catch Me If You Can" (2002). Do you concur?

Answer: Yes

Having left home after being told of his parents' divorce, teen-aged Frank began masquerading as an airline pilot while cashing fraudulent checks. He was laying low in Atlanta when he decided to pose as Dr. Frank Conners after meeting a nurse named Brenda.

After becoming engaged, Frank accompanied Brenda to New Orleans, where he presented himself as a lawyer. Christopher Walken played Frank, Sr., while Tom Hanks played Carl Hanratty, the agent trying to catch Frank Jr.
6. This movie had two brothers (and their bitter mother) in pursuit of a group of kids who were searching for pirate treasure. One brother was named Jake and the other was named Francis. Which movie was this?

Answer: The Goonies

The Fratellis, subjects of an earlier police chase, had their hideout at the old lighthouse lounge. Unfortunately, that was the place the Goonies figured contained the entrance to One-eyed Willie's treasure tunnel. After Jake and Francis captured Chunk they found out that the kids had found the start of a tunnel in the basement fireplace. Pretty soon Jake, Francis and their mother were after the kids, followed by Chunk and the other brother, Sloth. Joe Pantoliano played Francis, Robert Davi played Jake, and Anne Ramsey played Mama Fratelli in 1985's "The Goonies".
7. In "Emma" (1996), the man Emma Woodhouse (Gwyneth Paltrow) married at the end of the movie was Frank Churchill (Ewan McGregor).

Answer: False

After making a successful match for her governess, Emma tried to find someone for her new friend Harriet (Toni Collette) but only made a mess of things. Frank Churchill was first considered as a match for Emma and then for Harriet, but as everyone later found out, he and Jane Fairfax were secretly engaged. Harriet ended up finding someone for herself, while Emma eventually realized that she loved her good friend, Mr. Knightley, a feeling which he reciprocated.
8. In which movie did Jack Lemmon play Ensign Frank Pulver?

Answer: Mister Roberts

Ensign Pulver, along with the rest of the men on the USS Reluctant, was content to stay under the radar and let Lt. Doug Roberts (Henry Fonda) be the one to do battle with the heartless Captain Morton (James Cagney). It was only after Doug was transferred to a combat vessel that Ensign Pulver finally stood up to the captain. Lemmon's role in "Mister Roberts" (1955) earned him his first of eight Oscar nominations, and his first win (for Best Supporting Actor).
9. PR expert Frankie Stone (Ann Magnuson) was hired to promote a technology firm's product, in "Making Mr. Right" (1987). What was the product?

Answer: An android

Frankie was hired to promote Ulysses, an android created to make a lengthy space mission. She did her job a little too well and Ulysses ended up having more human emotions than his creator, Dr. Jeff Peters. Having fallen in love, Frankie and Ulysses were able to stay together after Dr. Peters decided to take the android's place on the space mission. John Malkovich played two roles in the movie, Dr. Jeff Peters and the look-alike android, Ulysses.
10. Which Frank appeared in "Field of Dreams", "A Midnight Clear" and "Swing Kids"?

Answer: Frank Whaley

In "Field of Dreams" (1989), Whaley played a young baseball player named Archie Graham (the future Doc Graham) who was brought to Ray's field to play ball with the other guys. Whaley played "Father" Mundy, part of a WWII American army unit in the Ardennes who encountered a group of German soldiers tired of the war, in "A Midnight Clear" (1992). "Swing Kids" (1993) starred Frank Whaley, alongside Robert Sean Leonard and Christian Bale, as the sensitive Arvid who loved playing swing music, but whose handicap and estrangement from his friends led him to make a sad decision.
