Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While the FBI guys poke around in the drawers and closets of Henry and Karen's home, she offers them coffee, holds her baby on her lap and watches TV. What famous entertainer of long ago is singing on the television?

Answer: Al Jolson

Jolson, not in blackface this time, is singing "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye" in what seems to be a clip from "The Jazz Singer," which is said to be the first sound movie, but only the songs are recorded on the soundtrack. The rest is titles like the typical silent movie.

The first all-sound movie was "The Lights of New York." There were two other "Jazz Singers," one with Danny Thomas, one with Neil Diamond. Just a little added question: Which one of the three actors who starred in the title role in "The Jazz Singer" wasn't Jewish? Answer in info for next q.
2. Neither Henry nor Karen cared much about the way they dressed.

Answer: False

Scorsese's camera pans across their closets to show us they both have gigantic, expensive-looking wardrobes. (Answer to extra q:Danny Thomas, who was Lebanese.)
3. A very important event takes place on June 11, 1970, at the Suite Lounge (owned by Henry) on Queens Blvd. "Made guy" Billy Batts is back from the slammer and he has a slight disagreement with Tommy (Joe Pesci), a disagreement which gets him beaten and killed! Who played Billy Batts?

Answer: Frank Vincent

You may or may not know Vincent's name, but you know his face. He has been in a ton of movies since the 1970s, including "Casino," in which he played Frank Marino, and "Raging Bull" as Salvy, who took a beating that looked even worse than the one in "Goodfellas," said beating also administered by Joe Pesci, but without help.
4. With Billy Batts' body in the trunk, the guys drive to Tommy's mom's house. What was the last name of the actress who played his mom?

Answer: Scorsese

Marty's mom Catherine appeared in several of her son's films, and she seemed to be the world's nicest lady. He was lucky to have a mom like her. Too bad she's gone.
5. While they're at Tommy's mom's house, Tommy looks at something and says, "One dog goes one way, and the other dog goes the other way, and this guy's sayin', 'Wadda ya want from me?'" What is Tommy referring to?

Answer: a painting

It was a painting Tommy's mom had done of a man and two dogs in a boat. The man reminded the guys of their almost-dead friend Billy Batts. In my opinion, this is the funniest line in the movie. Cracks me up every time!
6. What entertainer do Henry and his girlfriend Janice Rossi see at the Copa at this point in the movie?

Answer: Jerry Vale

We see Vinton and Youngman at other times. Berle did not appear. Vale, credited as playing himself though it's hard to tell, sings one of his hits, "Pretend You Don't See Her," possibly a play on words relating to Henry's cheating, like "Pretend to your wife that you're not seeing anyone else."
7. The Spider scene: Spider is a waiter at a place where Tommy and the guys play poker. Spider and Tommy have a disagreement, and Tommy shoots him in the foot and eventually shoots him to death. Who played Spider?

Answer: Michael Imperioli

Michael became a familiar face as Tony's nephew Chris on "The Sopranos."
8. At one point in the movie, Karen was on the verge of shooting Henry in the face.

Answer: True

After Karen goes to Janice's apartment house and calls her a whore through the intercom, Henry's taking a nap at home, and Karen straddles him, pointing Henry's gun at his face. He just about talks her out of killing him. Then he throws her on the floor and points the gun in her face.
9. Henry and Jimmy go to Tampa, FL, to beat a guy into paying money he owes. They almost throw him into the lion enclosure at the zoo. However, somebody turns them in and they have to do jail time. Who turns them in?

Answer: the guy's sister

The guy's sister was a typist for the FBI. She turned in Henry, Jimmy, and her brother. Henry and Jimmy got 10 years in prison.
10. What is the last name of the actor who played Vinny, the man in his seventies who is shown cooking for the guys in prison?

Answer: Scorsese

His first name was Charles, and he was Marty's dad. He appeared in 11 movies, mostly his son's productions, including "Raging Bull" and "Casino."
