Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What 1988 movie was set around a live radio show in Dallas, Texas, and starred Eric Bogosian?

Answer: Talk Radio

"Talk Radio" is a dark movie and is based around a no nonsense liberal talk show host who thrives on arguing on air with radical elements. Some of the more intense scenes of the movie happen when Eric's character is in studio live on the air and arguing with callers.

The movie ends just before his show is about to go nationwide, when one of the radical listeners murders him. The murderer is played by Rockets Redglare, born Michael Morra, who among other things was bodyguard and supplier to Jean Michel Basquiat. He played himself in the movie "Basquiat".
2. In 1997 Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen teamed up for a comedy flick. One of the main scenes involved Tucker's character on a prison bus. What movie involving media/crime is this?

Answer: Money Talks

Charlie Sheen plays a reporter and Chris Tucker plays a street hustler, who gets put in jail after a tip from Charlie Sheen. Tucker's character ends up in bigger trouble when another inmate breaks out from a prison transport they are both on and guards are killed. Tucker ends up eliciting Sheen's help in clearing his name of the escape and killings.
3. In this movie, a country girl dance teacher from Arkansas, played by Dolly Parton, finds out she is better at advice and moves to Chicago to run a radio advice column. What is the name of the movie?

Answer: Straight Talk

Dolly Parton plays Shirlee Kenyon and goes from dance teacher to radio advice columnist by pretending she is a clinical psychologist. Dolly's character meets James Wood's character following an incident involving a bridge and a dropped 20 dollar bill.
4. What is the name of the 2003 Portuguese movie is set around a ship, captained by John Malkovich, traveling from Portugal to India?

Answer: A Talking Picture

This film involves a woman and her mother on a cruise from Portugal on their way to meet the woman's husband, who is a pilot in India. After first having a dinner with French woman (Catherine Deneuve), an Italian woman (Stefania Sandrelli), and a Greek woman (Irene Papas), the Captain has dinner with the woman and her mother.

The movie ends with bombs on the boat and the woman frantically trying to find her mother and get to safety.
5. What is the name of the 1942 movie set around the trial of a character played by Cary Grant?

Answer: The Talk of the Town

Like most movies carried by Cary, "The Talk of the Town" is an escapist (in more ways than one) light-hearted comedy, with some romantic involvement. This one is no exception. Also starring Ronald Colman and Jean Arthur, it concerns a mill employee accused of causing the death of a fellow worker due to fire. The movie was nominated for seven Oscars.
6. This independently released film, which has obtained cult status, was written and directed by Nicole Holofcener. The movie is set around two roommates sharing an apartment in New York City. Name the film.

Answer: Walking and Talking

The movie stars Catherine Keener, who is having difficulty dealing with living the single life, and Anne Heche, who is planning to get married to Tom Field's character. Some of Catherine Keener's troubles revolve around the apartment she lives in being emptier, as Anne Heche is moving out, and her cat coming down with cancer.
7. Based on a 2003 novel by Lionel Shriver, this 2011 movie is about a school massacre (fictional). The title, containing a name that is the same as one of the "South Park" characters is "We Need to Talk About ____". Complete the title.

Answer: Kevin

Filming for this movie took place in Stamford Connecticut. The story is told through the eyes of Eva (the mother of Kevin), played by Tilda Swinton who deservedly got several movie award nominations for her role.
8. What 1989 movie which spawned two sequels, is set around a single mother looking for love and her baby, Mikey, who is voiced by Bruce Willis?

Answer: Look Who's Talking

This romantic comedy film starred John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, Olympia Dukakis, George Segal and the voice of Bruce Willis. The two sequels were "Look Who's Talking Too" (1990) and "Look Who's Talking Now" (1993). After Kirstie Alley's character doesn't want the baby's father in the picture we see a few of her bad dates which are set in restaurants over dinner.
9. Which 2002 movie is set during World War II in the Pacific and stars Nicolas Cage?

Answer: Windtalkers

"Windtalkers" is a movie very loosely based on the true fact that the Navajo language was used as the basis of a code by Americans in WWII in every major engagement in the Pacific. It combined a mostly unknown language with cryptographics and is claimed to have never been broken.
10. What Rock Hudson and Doris Day movie was released in 1959 and takes place in New York City and has a phone in many scenes?

Answer: Pillow Talk

Rock Hudson and Doris Day star in this movie and become connected by having to share a phone line and thus have to listen in to the other's conversations at times. They finally meet in a nightclub as Hudson's character, pretending to be a Texas rancher, puts the moves on Day's character.

Nominated for several Oscars (including Best Actress for Ms. Day), "Pillow Talk" was the first of three movies that Rock Hudson and Doris Day, along with Tony Randall, starred in. The 1959 romantic comedy grossed over US$18 million (quite a high number for its time) and was named by the Library of Congress to the US National Film Registry in 2009.
