This movie is about the bond between man and beast, Kham (played by Tony Jaa) and Por Yai his elephant and its calf, Kohrn. The elephants are stolen by a Vietnamese criminal who owns a restaurant in Australia called Tom Yum Goong Otob.

In USA the film was titled "The Raid: Redemption" because the distributors, Sony, could not get the rights.

The movie uses the Indonesian martial art of pencak silat. "The Raid" is about a police action against a criminal boss and his gang and focusses on two brothers caught up in the fighting.

The blacksmith is also a weapons maker, but after seeing the near destruction of his village, he turned protector instead and saved the village from the criminal clans. RZA spent up to two hours a day for two months training for the action sequences.
