Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In a famous opening scene, Bette Davis repeatedly shoots - and kills -a man. What is the movie?

Answer: The Letter

From a play by Somerset Maugham. Not bad. The others are also Bette Davis movies.
2. Barbara Stanwyck 'graduated' from movies to television late in her career. In what type of TV series did she star from 1965 to 1969?

Answer: Western

Victoria Barkley in 'The Big Valley'. With Lee Majors, Linda Evans, Peter Breck, Richard Long. Good show.
3. Olivia DeHavilland often appeared with Errol Flynn. Which one of these Flynn movies did NOT include her in the cast?

Answer: San Antonio

That one was with Alexis Smith. 'Robin Hood' is a classic.
4. Loretta Young starred in 'Call of the Wild'. Who was her co-star?

Answer: Clark Gable

Entertaining. Was he also the father of her daughter?
5. Lauren Bacall often appeared with Humphrey Bogart - but she made other films, too. Which one of the following was NOT in 'Written on the Wind'?

Answer: Ann Sothern

A better-than-average soaper. Strong Rock and weak Bob, with Malone drifting through.
6. Joan Crawford won the Oscar for 'Mildred Pierce', but had other interests besides acting. In what type of major company did she play a prominent role?

Answer: Soda

Through marriage, she became involved in management of Pepsi.
7. Marlene Dietrich had a big role in 'Destry Rides Again'. Who wrote the novel - not nearly as lighthearted as the James Stewart movie - on which the film was based?

Answer: Max Brand

A pleasant movie ... but I always wished that they had played it 'straight' and made a 'traditional' western.
8. Ingrid Bergman starred as which of these heroines?

Answer: Joan of Arc

It didn't do very well. She also played Golda Meir.
9. Doris Day didn't only do comedies with Rock Hudson. She had a fine dramatic role in 'Love Me or Leave Me'. Who was her co-star?

Answer: James Cagney

Interesting (true) story, well-done by all. Great voice - but she was also a good actress.
10. Deborah Kerr is best known for 'The King and I' (along with 'From Here to Eternity' and 'Affair to Remember'). Which song is NOT from that musical?

Answer: Younger Than Springtime

That one is from 'South Pacific'. I never understood the great appeal of 'King'.
