Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Frat Pack did not earn their name for quite a while. The first "official" Frat Pack movie did not even star one of them. The Frat Packers involved in this movie had small parts. It tells the story of a man, recently separated from his girlfriend, meeting a guy with an unhealthy fixation on TV. At first, the guy just wants to be his friend, but he soon turns dangerous. The movie was not very popular at first, but has developed into a cult classic. What is this 1996 film that features Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and Ben Stiller?

Answer: The Cable Guy

Jack Black and Owen Wilson have small parts in this black comedy about a man (Matthew Broderick) and his cable-obsessed stalker, played by Jim Carrey. Black plays Broderick's good friend Rick, and Owen Wilson is the guy who dates his girlfriend while they are separated. Ben Stiller has dual roles, as the twins in the trial of the century, that we see on TVs throughout the film.

He also directed it. Ben's sister Amy is in the movie as well.
2. Which of the following movies, about a family of geniuses actually getting close for the first time, does NOT feature only the Wilson brothers as representatives of the Pack?

Answer: The Royal Tennenbaums

Luke and Owen are the only Frat Packers in the other three movies. They are both in "The Royal Tennenbaums", but Ben Stiller also has a big part in this movie about a dysfunctional, rich family that is reluctantly brought closer by the scheming father. For some reason, Luke and Owen's older brother Andrew is not considered an official Frat Pack member, even though he appears in "Zoolander", "Rushmore", "Bottle Rocket", and "The Royal Tennenbaums" with his brothers. Of course he always has such small parts that most people probably wouldn't recognize him if they saw him.
3. Which of the following Frat Packers is in "Zoolander"?

Answer: Vince Vaughn

Vaughn has a tiny part as Derek Zoolander's brother Luke. Perhaps writer/director Ben Stiller gave him this name as a reference to Owen Wilson's brother, who, along with Jack Black, is not in the movie. Ben, Owen, and Will Ferrell have larger parts in the wacky comedy about a male model who is brainwashed into becoming an assassin.
4. How many movies, as of 2005, feature all six Frat Pack members?

Answer: 0

No movie, as of 2005, features all the Frat Packers. "Anchorman" comes close, but is short one member. Owen Wilson is the only one not in it.
5. What Frat Pack movie, about the reunion of a washed-up, one-hit wonder band, features Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller?

Answer: The Suburbans

"The Suburbans" stars Will Ferrell as a member of an '80s one-hit wonder band, and Ben Stiller has a small part. The movie is about the band getting their career started again, after about 15 years of doing nothing. Many of the movies have only two Frat Packers.

For example, Jack Black and Ben Stiller are in "Envy" and "Orange County", Vince Vaughn and Stiller are in "Dodgeball", and Luke and Owen Wilson are in "Bottle Rocket", "Rushmore", to name a couple.
6. Which of these is a Frat Pack movie?

Answer: Permanent Midnight

"Permanent Midnight" stars Ben Stiller as real-life comedy writer and heroin addict Jerry Stahl. The film is a biopic of his career and struggle with drugs. Owen Wilson has a supporting part in the movie, which is more serious than most of the Frat pack movies.

It is the only movie of the choices which features more than one Frat Packer. According to an article in USA Today, this is the only real qualification of a Frat Pack movie.
7. Which is NOT a character from a Frat Pack movie?

Answer: Dewey Finn

Arturo Mendes is Ben Stiller's character in "Anchorman" and Eli Cash is Owen Wilson's character in "The Royal Tennenbaums". Jack Byrnes is Robert De Niro's "Meet the Parents" character. "Meet the Parents" qualifies as a Frat Pack movie because it stars Stiller and Owen Wilson. Dewey Finn is the name of Jack Black's character in "The School of Rock", which isn't a Frat Pack movie because it has no other Frat Packers. "School of Rock" stars Black as a rocker who impersonates his best friend, who's a substitute teacher, and starts a band with the students.
8. Wes Anderson, Ben Stiller, and Todd Philips are the only people who direct Frat Pack movies.

Answer: False

Stiller directed "Zoolander" and "The Cable Guy", Phillips directed "Old School" and "Starsky & Hutch", and Anderson directed "The Royal Tennenbaums" and "Rushmore", but some other directors of Frat Pack films include David Veloz ("Permanent Midnight"), Jake Kasdan ("Orange County"), Rawson Marshall Thurber ("Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story"), and Luke and Andrew Wilson (2005's "The Wendell Baker Story").
9. As of 2005, which Frat Packer has played the most leading roles in the Frat Pack movies?

Answer: Ben Stiller

Stiller has been the star of eight Frat Pack movies, as of 2005: "Permanent Midnight", "Meet the Parents", "Zoolander", "The Royal Tennenbaums", "Starsky & Hutch", "Envy", "Dodgeball", and "Meet the Fockers".
10. All of the Frat Packers have done work on movies other than acting, such as writing, producing, and directing. Which movie did NOT have behind-the-scenes work done by a Frat Pack member?

Answer: Old School

Owen Wilson was an associate producer for "As Good As It Gets", Vince Vaughn was a producer for "Made", and Ben Stiller was the executive producer of "Starsky & Hutch". Surprisingly, no Frat Packers wrote, directed, or produced "Old School".
