Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If Stripes hadn't been left behind in the middle of the road, what kind of business would he have been in?

Answer: Circus

Stripes was left behind by accident by a traveling circus in a hurry in the middle of a thunderstorm. He was rescued by a farmer named Nolan Walsh. Nolan took Stripes home to his daughter, Channing. Stripes didn't know he was a zebra, and thought he was a racehorse. He dreamed he would someday race in the "big race", the Kentucky Open at Turfway Park, the racecourse near the Walsh farm.
2. Who played Channing Nolan?

Answer: Hayden Panetteire

Channing convinced her father to keep Stripes when they found him. Channing just wanted to race, like her late mother did, but her overprotective father wouldn't let her. Hayden has also starred in "A Bug's Life", "Raising Helen" and "Ice Princess". Mandy Moore was also in "Racing Stripes", she voiced Sandy the white show jumper.
3. What was the name of the pelican that crash landed on Walsh Farm?

Answer: Goose

Goose was a pelican from the big city hiding out at the farm. He was quite the comical character who got into a bit of trouble with some other birds in the city.
4. Who did Stripes race every morning?

Answer: The mailman

The first race training Stripes had was against the local mailman, played by Caspar Poyck. The race started every morning after the mailman dropped off the Walsh's mail. The mailman was also one of Stripes' biggest fans. At the Kentucky Open, he painted his face black and white.
5. Reggie the rooster said that Goose the pelican was a killing machine disguised as a what?

Answer: Idiot

Goose played a big part in Channing's first ride on Stripes. He destroyed the motorbike that Channing rode to work each day, and also popped all the tyres on the pickup truck. This left Channing with no choice but to ride Stripes. Goose was in the middle of destroying the motorbike when Reggie said this, and it was spoken to anybody who was listening.
6. Who told Stripes he was a zebra?

Answer: Sir Trenton

Sir Trenton was Trenton's Pride's father. Trenton's Pride was Stripes' biggest rival for the Kentucky Open. Stripes had no idea he was a zebra; he thought he was a racehorse, and was incredibly hurt that nobody told him. Sir Trenton was a nasty horse who only cared about winning.

He and a band of other horses hurt Stripes and left him where they thought nobody would find him, so Stripes wouldn't be able to make it to the race on time.
7. What was a favourite pastime of Buzz and Scuzz the horseflies?

Answer: Singing

Buzz and Scuzz were two horseflies who lived at the racetrack. They were old friends of Tucker's. They were the communication link between Tucker and Stripes during the Kentucky Open. They loved to sing, Scuzz loved rap and hip-hop music but Buzz had more conservative taste.
8. What made Stripes freeze up at the races?

Answer: The barrier gates

The gate was the reason Stripes didn't jump from the barriers with all the other horses the first time that Channing raced him at Turfway Park. It was only a small race. Channing and her father had to work long hours with Stripes to get over his fear.
9. What were the Walsh's racing colours?

Answer: Blue and Yellow

Nolan Walsh gave Channing the same silks that Channing's mother used to wear when she raced. Channing's mother died when she fell from a horse while racing. This was why Nolan wouldn't allow Channing to ride. The silks were seen when Channing raced Stripes in the Kentucky Open, and when Channing's father gave them to her.
10. Who did Stripes give the roses to?

Answer: Tucker

Before the accident that killed Channing's mum, Nolan and Tucker trained racehorses together. Tucker played a big part while Stripes was being trained. He and the other animals of the farm, including Frannie the goat and Reggie the rooster, convinced Nolan to train Stripes. The roses were given to Stripes after he won the Kentucky Open.
