1. Who did Ray meet on the side of the Rocking Chair Club?

Answer: Quincy Jones

Ray, who was played by Jamie Foxx, was dropped off beside the Rocking Chair Club to go find a gig. When he stepped out of the car, he could hear a trumpet playing. He told the trumpet that he liked his song and he introduced himself. The trumpet player was Quincy Jones who was played by Larenz Tate. Quincy offered to show Ray inside, but was turned around by the bouncer because he was too young.

Instead, the bouncer escorted Ray inside.
2. What was the nickname that Quincy Jones used with Ray?

Answer: six-nine

It was never shown when or where the nickname came into effect, but Quincy was seen calling Ray by it many times in the movie. When Ray was about to go on tour, Quincy came over to tell Ray about his own tour with Lionel Hampton. When he greeted Ray he called him "Six-Nine". Later, when Ray was older and Quincy met him at an interview, Quincy greeted him as "Six-Nine" again.
3. How did Ray determine if a woman was pretty or not?

Answer: feeling her wrist

Fat Head, who was played by Bookeem Woodbine, was in the Lowell Fulson band with Ray. He saw Ray talking to a pretty lady in a yellow dress after one of their shows. He explained to some of the band members how Ray felt a woman's wrist to tell if she was fine or not.

When Ray signed with Atlantic records, he played a couple of his songs for them. They told him that he sounded great, but they had heard the same music before. Ahmet, played by Curtis Armstrong, suggested to Ray that he play a song he had written, called "Mess Around". The record company instantly put it on a record. It proved to be a big hit.

Margie Hendricks was played by Regina King in the movie. Margie was one of Ray's backup singers and mistresses in the movie. Later in the movie, she had a son by Ray. She has been nominated for numerous Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress in a Film awards for the movie.

Ray was married to Della Bee Antoine, played by Kerry Washington, in the movie. When his first son was born, he asked Della Bee did he have his ten fingers and ten toes. At first, he was skeptical about holding him when Della Bee offered, but she reminded him that the baby was his son.

When he picked him up, he held him in such a way that looked as if he was weighing him in his hands. He told Della Bee that he was no bigger than a loaf of bread.
7. Why didn't Ray help his brother when he fell in the wash tub?

Answer: He thought that he was playing.

Little Ray, played by C.J. Sanders, and his brother, George, played by Terrone Bell, were playing a game when George stood on a bench in front of the wash tub. He was screaming at Ray that he was a giant, and slipped on the edge of the bench into the washtub. Since he fell backward, he couldn't get back up. Ray stood there and yell to his brother to stop playing around and it wasn't funny to play in the water. George drowned and was given a community funeral service.

Ray was giving out singing parts for his next song. He told Margie to sing soprano and gave Mary Ann bass. When Mary Ann objected, Margie offered to sing bass. Mary Ann called Margie a hog and they got into an argument. Ray calmed Margie by telling her he had a solo for her.
9. Why was Ray Charles banned from Georgia?

Answer: He wouldn't play for a segregated audience.

Ray Charles had a show in Georgia and was about to enter the building. There were blacks with signs boycotting segregation. The whites were inside, while blacks had to watch from the streets. One man stopped Ray and told him to make a difference and not perform for the people. Ray concurred with the man and turned his band around.

The owner of the establishment sued Ray for not playing and he was banned from the state of Georgia.
10. What nickname did Lowell Fulson give to Ray when they first met?

Answer: The Blind Sensation

Lowell Fulson met Ray for a meeting they had with Jack Lauderdale, played by Robert Wisdom. Jack was the owner of Swingtime Records. He putting Ray in Lowell's band as the pianist. The meeting ran short, however, when Jack and Lowell saw some attractive women. They excused themselves while Ray listened to the pianist at the club.
