Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fletch was in Chief Karlin's office and was being interrogated by the police chief. He was asked what his occupation was. What did Fletch tell Chief Karlin?

Answer: That he was a shepherd.

Chief Karlin: "Name?"
Fletch: "Fletch."
Chief Karlin: "Full name?"
Fletch: "Fletch F. Fletch."
Chief Karlin: "Occupation?"
Fletch: "I'm a shepherd."
This is the point in the movie when the police plant heroin on Fletch and the chief warns him to stay away from the beach.
2. What did Fletch tell Alan Stanwyk when he was asked if he owned a pair of rubber gloves?

Answer: He had a lease with an option to buy.

All Fletch was required to bring to Alan Stanwyk's house to kill him were gloves, a passport, and aim. Alan Stanwyk then asked him, "You would be doing both me and my family a great service. Will you kill me?" There is a pause here and then Fletch says "Sure!"
3. "Not since breakfast!" What was Fletch talking about when he uttered this quote?

Answer: A dead man's spleen

Fletch was masquerading as a doctor when he was pulled into a room where a doctor was performing an autopsy. Fletch got pretty nauseated and said that he hadn't washed up. The doctor says, "You ain't gonna make this guy any sicker." Fletch attempted to laugh but it faded. Then the doctor asked him, "Have you ever seen a spleen that large?" This is where Fletch uses that quote.
4. Fletch was held up at gunpoint at Sally Ann Cavanaugh's house by an unknown guy. What was Fletch's response after being told that the landlord had hired him to "watch out for the place?"

Answer: "I commend him on his choice."

When this compliment did not work, Fletch had to pull rank on him, especially when asked why he was looking under the bed. "I didn't want to have to pull rank on you. I am with the matress police and there are no tags on these mattresses. I am going to have to take you downtown." It did not work.
5. When getting an exam by Dr. Jellyfinger, Fletch uses an alias called "Mr. Babar." Fletch is asked how many B's are in Babar. What does Fletch tell him?

Answer: "One: B-A-B-A-R."

Doctor Jellyfinger: "How many B's?"
Fletch: "One, B-A-B-A-R."
Doctor Jellyfinger: "But, that's two!"
Fletch: "Yes, but not right next to each other, that is what I thought you meant."
6. Fletch: "You know, I ran into Alan this morning and do you know what I can't figure out?" Gail: "Alan's in Utah" What is Fletch's next line?

Answer: "I can't figure out what I was doing in Utah this morning."

This was at the tennis club after Fletch had ordered food and drinks and placed it on the Underhill's tab. He was trying to get information from Gail Stanwyk, one of Alan's wives, but he was mistaken for a "flyboy" buddy, attempting to pick her up.
7. What was the last promise that Fletch made to his boss, Frank, before Frank relented and let him buy a ticket to go to Utah?

Answer: He was going to buy him some new deodorant.

Fletch was on a mission to "check out" the ranch property in Utah that was sold to Alan Stanwyk. It was paid for with money that Gail Stanwyk had taken from her personal holdings (not corporate holdings, but personal holdings). It ended up only being scrub brush.
8. What was the response by Fletch, on his tape recorder, when a girl on the tape asked him if he was recording them together?

Answer: "No...never, never."

This was one of two times that he said "No, never, never." The other time was when he was given a cup of coffee and asked, "Sugar, Mr. Poon?"
9. Where did Fletch say that Fred "The Dorf" Dorfman's wife had just come back from, attempting to praise her to a confused crowd?

Answer: Trembling Hills

He then followed that up with another compliment. "No more alcohol or sedatives in her life". The six week stay at Trembling Hills really calmed her nerves, according to Fletch.
10. What did Fletch tell Marvin and Thelma in Provo (three names he enjoys) when he was asked to see the photo album?

Answer: "No thanks, I'm trying to quit."

He pulled the wool over their eyes as Harry S. Truman, an insurance salesman. He made an enormous fool of himself, but neither Melvin nor Thelma even realized it.
