"Sweeney Todd": The 2007 Movie Quiz

This is in the opening song, 'No Place Like London'. This lyric is sung by Anthony. Anthony is the sailor who rescues Todd from drowning off the coast of Australia and, although he's probably been to most of these places, he specifically mentions 'the mountains of Peru'.

In this song, and in this lyric, he is saying that all the places he's been don't compare to London (hence, the song's name 'No Place Like London').

This song is sung near the middle of the movie, and is sung in the pie shop. It shows Todd and Lovett gazing out the window and dancing around, speculating about how various people of certain professions would taste in pies.

Answer: Beadle Bamford

He is also commonly known as 'the Beadle'. He helps the Judge in all of his schemes, and acts as his advisor in court. He's evil, but not as evil as Turpin.

Answer: Lucy

Of course, this girl is Johanna, and you discover this in the song 'Alms, Alms'. Lucy is the beggar woman, whom you later discover is actually Todd's missing and crazy wife, and the mother of Johanna. She doesn't remember any of this though, because of the poison she drank when she attempted suicide.

Answer: The Beadle

Under Turpin's command, he beats Anthony for watching Johanna in the window, as a warning never to show his face on that street again. Anthony, of course, does not follow this rule, he returns to that street numerous times, to observe and rescue Johanna.

Answer: Gandering

His quote is, 'I saw you gander at her, I saw you, sir, you were gandering, yes, gandering!' You see, Anthony is plotting to 'steal' her when he is caught by the Judge. His punishment is a terrible beating, compliments of the Beadle.

She is only known as Mrs. Lovett throughout the movie AND the credits. No first name is ever given in the movie, but commonly, in the books, she is named 'Margery' or 'Sarah'.

Answer: He blackmailed Todd.

He blackmails Sweeney, saying that he'll reveal Todd's real identity if he doesn't receive half of Todd's earnings. He finds that Sweeney's razor makes a prompt response. Adolfo, when he was a child, was Todd's apprentice, so he had many secrets of Todd's to reveal (like his real name, etc).

The full lyric is, 'No, no, not lied at all, no I never lied. Said she took the poison, she did, never said that she died.' This is sung by a terrified Mrs. Lovett in the song, 'Final Scene', justifying the reason she lied to Todd about the state of his wife.

The reason that the word naive is normally in the song, is because Todd is speaking of his young self, and his prior naitivity for thinking the world was a good, and happy place.
