Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'For I come from the salt water people, we always live by the sea'

Answer: Christine Anu

'My Island Home' - Christine Anu. The Warumpi Band originally recorded it, but Christine changed the lyrics to suit her own life experience. She sang this at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games closing ceremony. If they ever do decide to change to national anthem, this gets my vote!
2. 'That boy needs therapy.'

Answer: The Avalanches

'Frontier Psychiatrist' - The Avalanches. A hit here in Australia in 2001 among electronic music buffs and getting attention around the globe, I understand. Good stuff.
3. 'All I have is alcohol so let me go'

Answer: The Sunnyboys

'Alone with You' - The Sunnyboys. What can I say, an absolute Oz Rock classic. This is what I remember when I think of the eighties!!
4. 'And we'll own you until we're through'

Answer: Spiderbait

'Buy Me a Pony' - Spiderbait. One minutes, forty-one seconds of pure pop brilliance. Also the very first australian song that australians voted as No. 1 in the Triple J Hottest 100 (only the biggest listener-voted music poll in the entire world).
5. 'We make a little history baby, every time you come around'

Answer: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

'The Ship Song' - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I almost couldn't make up my mind which song of his to quote, there are so many classics. Yes, Nick was in the Birthday Party too....
6. 'I miss you like sleep, there's nothing romantic 'bout the hours I keep'

Answer: You Am I

'Heavy Heart' - You Am I. Another band that just keeps producing classics. When I grow up, I want to write lyrics just like Tim Rogers.
7. 'I'd rather dance in ugly pants in the comfort of my loungeroom in suburbia'

Answer: Regurgitator

'! (The song formerly known as)' - Regurgitator. This band (from my home town, Brisbane!) are renowned for their ability to parody the styles of well-known artists and they usually do a better job. Bet you can't guess who they were taking off with this one!! The other bands are also brilliant BrisVegas bands well worth checking out.
8. 'and it's something quite peculiar, something shimmering and white'

Answer: The Church

'Under the Milky Way' - The Church. I'm embarassed for you if you are Australian and you got this wrong.
9. 'A knife, a fork, a bottle and a cork. That's the way you spell New York.'

Answer: The Cruel Sea

'Cocaine' - The Cruel Sea. I actually only included this in the hopes that somebody could explain the lyrics to me. Still a great song by a great band. (I'm also embarrassed for anybody, australian or not, who answered Kylie here!!)
10. 'Girls like that, Girls like that don't go for guys like us'

Answer: Custard

'Girls Like That' - Custard. Nobody did brilliant little slices of absurdity like Custard. I miss them!!!
