Tenacious D, comprised of Black and Gass, formed in 1994 and appeared on a three episode HBO series called "Tenacious D: The Greatest Band on Earth" spread over four years. Due to a burgeoning cult popularity, they were also asked to create a film (entitled "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny") which, while a flop at the box office, was popular with fans of the show for its 'rock humour'. Both featured cameos from famous rockers past and present.

The duo released a few albums under the band name and Gass has also toured with his other band, Trainwreck.

He was born in 1960 in California.
