Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was a Norwegian expressionist painter. From an early age he lived with illness and also suffered the death of close persons at home. This situation led him to much suffering, depression and a constant concern about death. Painting was the way he found to express his sadness. "Four Girls at Åsgårdstrand" 1902, "Anxiety" 1894 and "Madonna" 1892 are works by Munch that gained public attention.

However, when thinking about Munch we immediately remember his work "The Scream" 1893, which seems to reflect his loneliness.

There are two versions of this work in pastels, two in paintings and several lithographs.

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle class life. He became known throughout literature and cinema all over the world. Tracy Chevalier wrote the novel "Girl with a Pearl Earring" in 1999 and based on it, a film with the same named was made in 2003.

Strolling around Eldon, Iowa, Wood noticed the "Dibble House", which drew his attention for its Gothic-style window.

After the permission from the owners of the house to paint it and imagining the type of person who would live in a house like that, he created "American Gothic" 1930 which is one of the most famous works of American art.
