Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In his vision of the tree of life, Lehi was scared that some of the members of his family would not be saved. Who was Lehi worried about, of the following?

Answer: Laman

In 1 Nephi 8:14-16 it explains that Sam, Nephi, and Sariah followed Lehi in partaking of the fruit of the tree of life. Laman and Lemuel, however, did not.
2. In his first book, Nephi talks about these plates or in other words, the plates he's writing on. What was Nephi instructed to write about on these plates? (They are known as the small plates of Nephi today.)

Answer: an account . . . of the ministry of my people

The genealogy of Nephi's ancestors is contained in the book of Lehi and in the brass plates. The other two descriptions are of Nephi's large plates. See 1 Nephi 9.
3. In 1 Nephi 11 Nephi sees some of the things that Lehi had seen in his vision along with an interpretation of what they mean. What does the angel show Nephi that the tree represents?

Answer: The love of God

The great and spacious building was the pride of the world; the scriptures were the iron rod; the mist of darkness was the temptations of the devil. See 1 Nephi 11:21-22
4. In 1 Nephi 11 Nephi sees some of the things that Lehi had seen in his vision along with an interpretation of what they mean. What does the angel show Nephi that the great and spacious building represents?

Answer: The pride of the world

The great and spacious building was the pride of the world; the Scriptures were the iron rod; the mist of darkness was the temptations of the devil. See 1 Nephi 11:36
5. In 1 Nephi 12 Nephi sees some of the things that Lehi had seen in his vision along with an interpretation of what they mean. What does the angel show Nephi that the mists of darkness represent?

Answer: The temptations of the devil

The great and spacious building was the pride of the world; the Scriptures were the iron rod; the mist of darkness was the temptations of the devil. See 1 Nephi 12:17.
6. According to the Book of Mormon text, who, besides Nephi, wrote a book of scripture about 600 BC? (Not included in our current Book of Mormon.)

Answer: Lehi

Lehi wrote down his genealogy (1 Nephi 6:1) in this record. Although it is possible that Sam, Laman, or Lemuel may have written a book, there is no reference to it in the Book of Mormon.
7. Who did not call Lehi a visionary man in the Book of Mormon?

Answer: Nephi

Laman and Lemuel called him a visionary man (1 Nephi 2:11) as did Sariah. See 1 Nephi 5:2.
8. The Book of Mormon gives us two accounts of Lehi's sons returning to Jerusalem. The first was to get the brass plates, and the second was to get wives. Whose daughters did they take to wife?

Answer: Ishmael's

It is funny to note that we have no record of anybody complaining when the brothers were going back for wives, Laman and Lemuel seem to have been fine with that idea!
9. While Lehi and Ishmael and their families were traveling in the wilderness, there was a rebellion in which some wanted to return to Jerusalem. During this rebellion they bound someone's hands and feet and wanted to kill him. Who was this?

Answer: Nephi

Although it seems that Nephi, Sam, Lehi, and Ishmael were all in favor of continuing their journey, Nephi seems to have been the one who tried to convince the rebellious of their wrongs, and therefore was the one that they wanted to kill. Previous incidents, I'm sure, also had to do with it (like when they went back to Jerusalem to get the brass plates).
10. Lehi had a dream about the tree of life. In this dream, those who made it to the great and spacious building were saved.

Answer: False

Far from being righteous people, these people mocked those that were partaking of the fruit of the tree of life, which in this dream was symbolic of being saved.
