Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1 Nephi Chapter 14, Nephi is writing about some of the things he saw in a vision. After Nephi has written many things, the Lord forbids Nephi to write more, saying that someone else had been ordained to write those things. Who was it?

Answer: John the Beloved

Nephi sees an apostle who he later reveals is John. He is the one ordained to write many of the things that will happen in the end of the world. See 1 Nephi 14:18-22,27.
2. What did Nephi do to show Laman and Lemuel the Lord's power?

Answer: shocked them

The Lord threatened Laman and Lemuel that if they touched Nephi, he would wither them like a reed, but since they didn't touch Nephi, that never occurred. See 1 Nephi 17:53.
3. Nephi quotes a certain prophet frequently. Who is this prophet?

Answer: Isaiah

Mark is an unlikely pick because he lived many years after Nephi. The others are possibilities, but Nephi devotes over ten chapters to Isaiah, and none to the others. See 1 Nephi 19:23.
4. Who dies shortly after Nephi and his family and friends arrive in the promised land?

Answer: Lehi

Ishmael had died before they left the Old World. There is no indication that Sam dies, nor Laman (at least not for many years after arriving in America). See 2 Nephi 4:11.
5. In describing what people now call the Liahona, Nephi describes it as being of curious workmanship. Which of the following would be a good substitute for the word curious?

Answer: skilled

Throughout the Book of Mormon, and in the Bible, curious is better described as skilled than strange. See 1 Nephi 16:10.
6. Where did Lehi find what we refer to as the Liahona?

Answer: outside the tent

I hope that the other answers also seem plausible, but outside the tent is the right answer. See 1 Nephi 16:10.
7. Sometimes Nephi refers to the writings of the tribe of Judah. What book is he referring to?

Answer: Torah

The tribe of Judah refers to the Jews, and they wrote the Old Testament (called the Torah by Jews). The New Testament is also sometimes considered by members of the LDS to be part of the writings of the tribe of Judah. The writings of the tribe of Joseph refers to the writings of Lehi and his descendants.
8. From which son of Israel were Lehi and his descendants?

Answer: Joseph

Lehi and his descendants were sons of Joseph, through Manassah. Jews come from Manassah and the other tribes of Israel, which include Judah, Dan and Simeon. See 2 Nephi 4:2 and 2 Nephi 3:4.
9. In 2 Nephi chapter four, who shows his sadness because of his own sins?

Answer: Nephi

This may be a tricky question if you haven't read this chapter recently. In 2 Nephi 4:12, Nephi announces Lehi's death. Laman and Lemuel, being wicked, are not the ones to lament their wickedness. Nephi is the one who wishes that he could be more righteous, and sin no more. See 2 Nephi 4:17-35.
10. Lehi blesses the sons and daughters of Laman that if they are cursed, that the cursing be taken away and be answered upon . . .

Answer: the heads of their parents

It says that Lehi left the same blessing on the sons and daughters of Lemuel also. See 2 Nephi 4:6.
