Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Helaman chapter 4, the Nephites lost a lot of land to the Lamanites. They recovered half of these lands through war. How did they regain the remainder of their possessions?

Answer: The Lamanites voluntarily gave them back.

Nephi and Lehi went and preached the gospel to the Lamanites and to the Nephite dissenters living with them and many were converted. The Lamanites became righteous and voluntarily gave the lands back. See Helaman Chapter 5, Verse 52.
2. In Helaman Chapter 4 when the Nephite dissenters tried to get the Lamanites to fight the Nephites, the Lamanites were hesitant.

Answer: True

The Lamanites had just lost to the Nephites in a war (Helaman Chapter 1). To see that the Lamanites were indeed hesitant, read Helaman Chapter 4, Verse 3.
3. To whom did Nephi deliver up the judgment seat?

Answer: Cezoram

It is unclear whether Nephi was voted out of office or whether he voluntarily gave it up. See Helaman 5:1.
4. Nephi and Lehi had much success preaching to the Lamanites. According to the text, how many were baptized from "the Land of Zarahemla and round about"?

Answer: 8000

Some of those who were baptized were Nephite dissenters, who hated the Nephites. Nephi and Lehi truly were prophets of God. See Helaman 5:19.
5. In the Land of Nephi, the Lamanites cast Nephi and Lehi into prison. They went to the prison to kill them and saw that Nephi and Lehi were encircled by fire. The Lamanites, on the other hand, were surrounded by a cloud of darkness. What was the name of the Nephite dissenter, among the Lamanites, who explained how they could escape from this cloud of darkness?

Answer: Aminadab

Akish was a Lamanite believer from the book of Alma. Aaron was a missionary/prophet from the book of Alma, and Ammah was one of his companions. Aminadab knew much about the church of Christ because he had once belonged to it. See Helaman Chapter 5, Verses 35-41.
6. In which direction did many Nephites migrate in Helaman Chapter 3?

Answer: North

There were wars and contentions among the Nephites, and a group of Nephites traveled very far to the North, where there were many lakes and rivers. See Helaman Chapter 3, Verse 3.
7. The land that they migrated to was called Desolate. What did it lack?

Answer: Timber

Because the land lacked timber, the Nephites in this land became very expert in working with cement. See Helaman Chapter 3, Verse 6.
8. In Helaman Chapter 6 we learn that Lehi and Mulek did not land in the Promised Land at the same place. Mulek landed in the north, and so it was called the Land Mulek.

Answer: True

Lehi and Mulek came to the Promised Land (America) in about 600 BC. Both were guided by the Lord. See Helaman 6:10.
9. By Helaman Chapter 7, the followers of whom had obtained the judgment-seats?

Answer: Gadianton

Gadianton was the leader of a secret band of wicked men. Before the book of Helaman, the Gadianton robbers (as they were called) did not exist - or at least we don't have records of them. Therefore, in the space of few years, they became very powerful.

The judgment-seat was a democratic political office that was supposed to be chosen by popular vote. The fact that a wicked man was appointed means either that the majority of the people were wicked, or that the wicked men were using other means to get into office. See Helaman 7:4.
10. On what was Nephi praying when he lamented the wickedness of the Nephites?

Answer: tower

The other answers may seem a little tempting because many prophets prayed on hills, moutaintops, or rocks, but Nephi prayed on a tower in this case. Nephi was disgusted with the Nephites because those in the north had rejected him, and the wicked in Zarahemla were being pardoned because of their money, while the righteous were being condemned. See Helaman 7:10.
