Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fill in the missing word from Galatians 5:1 in the NKJV: "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be __________ again with a yoke of bondage." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entangled

The missing word is 'entangled'. Galatians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The common belief is that the book was addressed to members of the early church at Galatia, a district in present day Turkey. However, according to Wikipedia, a small number of scholars believe 'Galatia' is "an ethnic reference to a Celtic people living in northern Asia Minor". Galatians consists of six chapters.

Rather than use the word 'entangled', the NIV states, "do not be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
2. Fill in the missing word from Psalm 29:10 in the NKJV: "The LORD sat ___________ at the Flood and the LORD sits as King forever. (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: enthroned

The missing word is 'enthroned'. Psalm 29 was written by David and is praise to God in respect to His holiness and majesty.

To put Verse 10 in context, here's how it reads with Verse 11 in the NKJV:
"The LORD sat enthroned at the flood and the LORD sits as King forever. The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace."

While the NIV uses the word 'enthroned', the KJV does not. Psalm 29:10 in the KJV reads: "The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever."
3. Fill in the missing word from Proverbs 1:10 in the NKJV: "My son, if sinners ________ you, do not consent." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entice

The missing word from Proverbs 1:10 is 'entice'. Proverbs is a book of witty sayings largely written by Solomon, a king of Israel during the country's golden era. Chapter 30 was written by Agur and Chapter 31 was written by Lemuel.

The fist chapter of Proverbs is largely about the beginning of wisdom, the importance of shunning evil counsel and the call of wisdom.

(The KJV and the NIV both use the word 'entice' as well in Proverbs 1:10.)
4. Fill in the missing word from 1 Kings 6:22 in the NKJV: "The whole temple he [Solomon] overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the _______ altar that was by the inner sanctuary." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entire

The missing word from 1 Kings 6:22 is 'entire'. The verse is part of a passage telling of Solomon building a magnificent temple for God in Jerusalem. According to 1 Kings 6:38, it took seven years to build the temple. Scripture states thousands of people were involved in the construction.

While the NKJV uses the word 'entire', the KJV and the NIV both use the word 'whole'.
5. Fill in the missing word from 1 Thessalonians 2:4 in the NKJV: "But as we have been approved by God to be ___________ with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entrusted

The missing word from 1 Thessalonians 2:4 in the NKJV is 'entrusted'. 1 Thessalonians, as well as 2 Thessalonians, was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The two books were addressed to believers in the early church in Thessaloniki, a city in Greece. According to Wikipedia, Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece with a population of more than 1 million people. Only Athens is larger.

The NIV also uses the word 'entrusted' in 1 Thessalonians 2:4, but the KJV uses the term 'to be put in trust'.
6. Fill in the missing word from Hebrews 13:2 in the NKJV: "Do not forget to ___________ strangers..." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entertain

The missing word in Hebrews 13:2 in the NKJV is 'entertain'. The verse in its entirety states, "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels." I opted to use only the first six words of the verse as it also contains the word 'entertained'. I reckoned using the entire verse in the question could have caused confusion among quiz players.

No one knows for certain who wrote the book of Hebrews, although some people believe Paul was the author. Others strongly dispute this belief.

While the KJV also uses the word 'entertain' in the verse, the NIV urges readers to "do not forget to show hospitality."
7. Fill in the missing word from 2 Chronicles 33:12-13 in the NKJV: "Now when he was in affliction, he implored the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his ________, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entreaty

The missing word from 2 Chronicles 33:13 in the NKJV is 'entreaty'. Manasseh was an extremely brutal king, ruling over Judah for fifty-five years. According to Scripture, Manasseh "shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem from end to end." Despite his wickedness, Scripture tells of Manasseh turning to God in his later years and begging for forgiveness, with God restoring him.

While the NIV also uses the word 'entreaty' in 2 Chronicles 33:13, the KJV uses the word 'entreated'.
8. Fill in the missing word from Judges 3:22 in the NKJV: "Even the hilt went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he [Ehud] did not draw the dagger out of his [Eglon's] belly; and his _________ came out. (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entrails

The missing word from Judges 3:22 in the NKJV is 'entrails'. The verse is part of a passage telling of Ehud, a judge of Israel, killing Eglon, an extremely fat king of Moab. Judges 3:12-30 gives gory details of Ehud thrusting a dagger into Eglon's stomach.

The NIV and the KJV do not use the word 'entrails'. The NIV states "his bowels discharged" and the KJV states the "dirt came out".
9. Fill in the missing word from Exodus 32:26 in the NKJV: "Then Moses stood in the _________ of the camp, and said, 'Whoever is on the LORD'S side come to me!' And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: entrance

The missing word from Exodus 32:26 in the NKJV is 'entrance'. Moses made the request of the people after he came down from Mount Sinai after meeting with God and, to his immense sorrow, he saw the Israelites worshipping a gold calf made by Aaron. At the time, Moses was leading the people on a forty-year-long journey out of Egypt and into Canaan, known as the Promised Land.

While the NIV uses the word 'entrance', the KJV states Moses stood in the 'gate' of the camp.
10. Fill in the missing word from John 10:9, a quote by Jesus: "I am the door. If anyone ________ by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." (Remember all the answers start with the letters 'ENT'.)

Answer: enters

The missing word from John 10:9 in the NKJV is 'enters'. John 10:11 goes on to quote Jesus as saying, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." The two verses are part of seven different 'I am Statements' made by Jesus in the Gospel of John.

The NIV also uses the word 'enters' for John 10:11 while the KJV uses 'enter'.
