Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of foxes to whose tails Samson attached torches to burn the crops of the Philistines. (Judges 15:4)

Answer: 300

Samson, a judge of Israel, is noted for a number of unusual things, including catching three hundred foxes and attaching torches to the tails of the animals before setting them loose in the grain fields of the Philistines.

However, much more than grain fields were consumed by fire. Scripture tells of vineyards and olive groves being set on fire as well. See Judges 15:4-5 for details.
2. Find the match for the number of the Psalm David wrote after he went to the LORD seeking forgiveness for committing adultery and orchestrating a murder. (NKJV and NIV)

Answer: 51

David wrote Psalm 51 after he committed adultery with Bathsheba and orchestrated the death of her husband Uriah. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state David wrote the Psalm of repentance after he was rebuked by Nathan, the prophet.

To give a sense of what Psalm 51 is like, here's how the first two verses appear in the NKJV:
"Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin."
3. Find the match for the number of clusters of raisins Abigail gave to David while she was still the wife of Nabal. (1 Samuel 25:18)

Answer: 100

Abigail offered David a wide variety of foodstuffs, including one hundred clusters of raisins, as per 1 Samuel 25:18 in the NKJV. (The NIV says one hundred cakes of raisins, rather than clusters.)

According to Scripture, Abigail, who was married to Nabal at the time, offered David a wide variety of foodstuffs after his warriors had been insulted by her husband. In fact, the rude treatment by Nabal prompted David to assemble his warriors to conduct a raid against Nabal. As David and his warriors were approaching, Abigail took matters into her hands and greeted them with a large quantity of food, including one hundred clusters of raisins, as a gesture of peace.

After being presented with the food, Scripture states David abandoned his plans for attack. Scripture goes on to tell of the LORD striking Nabal dead and Abigail becoming David's wife.
4. Find the match for the number of Philistine foreskins David produced for King Saul to win the hand of his daughter Michal. (1 Samuel 18:27)

Answer: 200

To win the hand of Saul's daughter Michal, Scripture states David produced two hundred Philistine foreskins. This even though Saul had requested David produce one hundred foreskins to win this daughter's hand.

1 Samuel 18:25-26 states Saul requested David produce one hundred Philistine foreskins with the belief he would be killed attempting to reach the goal.

For the account of David taking Michal as his wife, see 1 Samuel 18:20-27.
5. Find the match for the number of men accompanying Esau when he met up with Jacob after the two brothers had been apart for many years. (Genesis 32:6)

Answer: 400

Jacob fled fearing for his life after he fraudulently obtained Esau's blessing from their elderly father Isaac, as per Genesis 27:41. So when Jacob saw Esau approaching him a number of years later with an army of four hundred men, Jacob was terrified, fearing the worst. However, Jacob had nothing to fear, as the two brothers had a heart-warming reunion.

See Genesis 32:1-21 for further details.
6. Find the match for the total number of children of Job who were killed when a windstorm toppled the house they were in. (Job 1:2 and 18-19)

Answer: 10

Ten is the correct answer. According to Job 1:18-19, Job lost his seven sons and three daughters when the equivalent of a tornado demolished the house they were in. No names are given for the ten children.

The book of Job ends with Job's life being blessed immensely in his latter years with seven more sons and three daughters being born to him. While the names of his seven sons are not given, Job 42:14 states his daughters were named Jemimah, Keziah and Keren-Happuch.
7. Find the match for the age of Noah when a gigantic flood engulfed the world. (Genesis 7:11)

Answer: 600

According to Genesis 7:11, Noah was six hundred years old when the world became engulfed in a monstrous flood unleashed by God as punishment for the extreme wickedness of the people. Scripture states it rained continuously for forty days and forty nights and the world ended up being covered by floodwaters. Only eight people survived the flood -- Noah and his unnamed wife, as well as their three sons and their three unnamed wives.

They survived by taking refuge in a gigantic ark Noah had built.
8. Find the match for the age of Azariah, also known as Uzziah, when he became king of Judah. (2 Kings 14:21)

Answer: 16

According to 2 Kings 14:21, Azariah was sixteen years old when he became king of Judah, reigning for fifty-two years. (In 2 Chronicles 26:1 and Isaiah 6:1 he is known as Uzziah.)

During Azariah's reign, Judah prospered. In fact, Wikipedia states his reign was the most prosperous, excepting that of Jehoshaphat, since the time of Solomon.

A number of other characters in the Old Testament are called Azariah, including the man who was given the Babylonian name Abednego.
9. Find the match for the number of chapters in Jeremiah, as per the NKJV and NIV.

Answer: 52

Jeremiah, one of the major books of prophecy in the Old Testament, contains fifty-two chapters, using the NKJV and NIV. The other major books of prophecy are Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. Jeremiah appears after Isaiah and is followed by the book of Lamentations in the Protestant Bible.
10. Find the match for the number of years Manasseh ruled over Judah. (2 Kings 21:1)

Answer: 55

Manasseh ruled over Judah for fifty-five tyrannical years. One of the reasons he was able to have such a long reign is the fact he became king when he was only twelve years old. He died at age sixty-seven.

Manasseh was the son of Hezekiah, as per 2 Kings 20:21. While Hezekiah is generally perceived as a good king, such isn't the case for his son. In fact, Manasseh's reign was filled with brutality.

2 Kings 21:16 explains his reign this way in the NKJV: "Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin by which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the LORD."
