Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which book of the Bible (New International Version) is this verse found? "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Answer: John

John 3:16 is one of the best known verses in the Bible.

In one of the most memorable sermons I have heard on this verse, the pastor requested that each person replace the generic terms with that person's name -- "For God so loved ALEX that he gave his one and only Son, that if ALEX believes in him, ALEX shall not perish but have eternal life." This makes the verse much more personal.
2. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."

Answer: Romans

Romans 5:5 promises hope for a Christian during difficult circumstances. Because of his love, God provides the Holy Spirit to give comfort.
3. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found, with another word substituted for "person"? "No [person] can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Answer: both of these books

This verse is found in both Matthew and Luke. Matthew 6:24 uses the word "one" rather than "person" while Luke 16:13 uses the word "servant."

In either case, this verse speaks to the love of money, not money itself.
4. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil."

Answer: 1 Timothy

While these words are commonly thought to have been spoken by Jesus, they are, in fact, from a letter written by Paul to Timothy - 1 Timothy 6:10.
5. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent."

Answer: Revelation

Revelation 3:19 --- Even in Revelation, a book commonly only associated with the doom and gloom of the end of the world, "love" is found. Quite frankly, being rebuked and disciplined are not exactly high on my list of fun, but there is love!
6. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal."

Answer: 1 Corinthians

1 Corinthians 13:1 -- 1 Corinthians 13 is commonly known as the Bible's "Love Chapter" and sections are frequently used in marriage services.
7. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."

Answer: John

John 12:25 --- This verse focuses on man's desire. The person who only thinks of life on earth, it says, will ultimately lose the opportunity of eternity with God.
8. In which book of the Bible (NIV) are these verses found? "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Answer: Romans

Romans 8:38-39 express certainty that a person's relationship with God cannot be severed.
9. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

Answer: John

John 15:13 --- This verse is a good conversation starter even for those who are not Christian. If you saw a child playing in the street with a car bearing down on him, what would you do? Could you die to save him? What if it were your best friend? Your own child?
10. In which book of the Bible (NIV) is this verse found? "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

Answer: Romans

Romans 8:28 --- This verse is often misconstrued to mean that those who love God will only experience happiness in their lives. However, the verse focuses on God's purpose rather than on his followers' lives being easy.
