Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What wise man in the Bible once penned these words; "...there is no new thing under the sun."?

Answer: Solomon

King Solomon, the son of David had this to say in the King James Version of Ecclesiastes 1:9-10;

"The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us."

2. The book of Daniel tells the story of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar's capture of the city of Jerusalem and of four young men of nobility who were brought into the king's service. Daniel's friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were given "new" names and are better known as whom?

Answer: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is one of the best loved in the Old Testament. After refusing to worship the gold statue that was created by Nebuchadnezzar, these righteous men were thrown into a fiery furnace and were saved by an angel. Chapter 3 tells us that the fire was so hot it killed the executioners, but the king was amazed to see four men walking around, unharmed, in the blazes. Realizing that the fourth man was truly divine, he released the three from the furnace and passed a law recognizing the power of God.

3. In Exodus 1:8 (KJV) it is said that some time after the death of Joseph, a "new" king who hadn't heard of Joseph took over Egypt. What did this king do to the Israelites?

Answer: He enslaved them

The exact verse in the Bible is: "Now there rose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph" (Exodus 1:8). This king is thought to have been Ramesses II. He thought that the Israelites as a people were too many and too powerful in his land and so he set out to lessen their power first by enslaving most of them and then by ordering all Israelite baby boys to be drowned in the river. Moses was born during this terrible time, but was saved from being killed and grew up to be a leader and a new hope to the Israelite people.

5. Although things looked really hopeless at the time, God told the prophet Isaiah to forget the past and see what new thing He was doing! According to Isaiah 43:19 (NIV), where was God making a new path and new streams?

Answer: in the wilderness and wastelands

God gave hope to his prophet Isaiah, that new and better things would come out of the circumstances that seemed horrible at the time.

God told Isaiah, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me,the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise." (Isaiah 43:18-21,NIV)

6. In the book of Revelation, Jesus promised those who overcometh something new when speaking to the church at Pergamos. What was that new thing?

Answer: A new name written in a white stone and hidden manna

Those who overcome the temptation, false teaching, and persecution will be rewarded by Jesus. These promises in Revelation 2:17 apply to all believers as the following verse says churches, not just the church at Pergamos.
Rev. 2:17" He that hath an ear, let him hear what the spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth." KJV

7. In the 1st chapter of the book of Mark, what had Jesus done to cause people to believe that a "new" doctrine was being introduced to them?

Answer: He had cast out a demonic spirit

Immediately after Jesus' ministry began in the city of Capernaum, he was teaching in the synagogue and astounded the people present with his voice of authority. Jesus then demanded that a member of the congregation who was possessed of an unclean spirit be released from the power of the demonic force.

In the King James Version of Mark 1:27-28 we read:

"And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee."

8. Paul was a testimony of a life turned around by Christ. According to Paul, in 2 Corinthians 5:17(KJV), if any man be in Christ, he becomes what new thing?

Answer: a new creature

Paul encouraged the Corinthian church by writing,"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

Many of the Corinthians were brand new in their faith. Paul encouraged them to leave the things of their former life and sin behind and focus on the wonderful things God would lead them towards. Because they were new creatures in Christ, they did not need to focus on the past, their faults, or failures, but instead what Christ wanted them to be.

9. When Joseph of Arimathea asked for the body of Jesus, and buried him in his own new tomb, whose prophecy of the Messiah was fulfilled, in Christian belief?

Answer: Isaiah

Though this scripture was written by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, it was penned by the prophet Isaiah. Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy man, a Pharisee and part of the Sanhedrin. In the King James Version of Isaiah 53:9 - "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth."
That the nature of His sacrifice including the manner of his burial with the rich is another irrefutable proof to the believer that Jesus is Lord.

Matthew 27:59-60 states, " And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed."

10. In the book of Revelation, John relates his vision of Jesus's return to earth and the final judgement of mankind. In Chapter 21, verse 1, he tells of seeing what new things as he stands before the throne of God?

Answer: A new heaven and earth

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more." Revelation 21:1 (NRSV)

The prophecy of Revelation is a letter addressed to the seven churches of Asia and details the final defeat of Satan and the resurrection to eternal life for God's followers. Jesus's promise to his disciples of his plans to prepare a place for them is fulfilled, and John's writings tell of us of a brand new home without pain, tears, sickness, or death.
