Answer: Adam

God made male and female for every kind of animal. Adam was in charge of naming all the animals. However Adam was alone and was God's most prized creation. God had formed Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him with His own breath. God saw it was not good for Adam to be alone.

He put Adam to sleep and formed a woman out of one of Adam's ribs. Adam woke up to a beautiful surprise standing beside him. Adam named her Eve, because she would be the mother of all living humans. (Genesis 2:18-25)

Answer: Isaac

Abraham was getting very old and his wife Sarah had passed away. Their son had been born during their old age, and was not quite ready to be alone. Abraham knew his son needed a wife and did not want him marrying the women in the surrounding lands. So Abraham sent his servant back to the land God had called him from.

He gave his servant gold and gifts for the journey, and made him promise to bring his son back a good woman. When the servant got to the land, he was nervous, tired, and thirsty. He prayed to God, "Give me a sign, that the right woman, would give water to me and my camels." Camels are animals that do not get their fill easily.

However God answered his prayer and Rebekah came. She watered the servant and all his camels. Afterwards when the servant told her his mission, she agreed to leave her family and marry Isaac. Isaac got a beautiful and strong woman because of the servant's prayer. (Genesis 24)

Answer: Jacob

Jacob had to run for his life because he deceived his father and brother when he stole a very important blessing. He had tricked his father by wearing goat skin, to appear hairy like his brother. His father (not being able to see the difference), blessed Jacob with all that he had intended for his firstborn son, Esau. Esau wanted to kill Jacob. Jacob went to his uncle's house to live until things died down.

He fell in love with the youngest of his uncle's daughters and his uncle agreed he could have her if he worked seven years. Seven years passed, a grand wedding was held, but after it was over Jacob discovered the next morning he had married the wrong daughter! Angrily he went to his uncle, who told him he could work seven more years for the daughter Jacob had wanted in the first place. Jacob did it, but cheated his uncle on the side by mixing animals.

He told his uncle he would keep the blemished animals as part of his pay, but purposely bred animals that had the things that he wanted.

After fourteen years of hard work, Jacob left his uncle's house with two wives, lots of kids, and tons of animals. (Genesis 29)

Answer: Moses

Moses was running for his life in the desert. He had just killed an Egyptian accidentally because he saw him beating a Hebrew slave. While in the desert he saw some shepherds being mean to the priest's daughters. They would not let them get water for themselves or their animals. Moses stood up to the shepherds and helped the ladies out.

They invited him home to see their father, and Moses fell in love with one of the daughters. A little kindness goes a long way, because she became his wife. They lived together happily and raised two sons. Moses became a shepherd for his father-in-law. (Exodus 2:16-18)

Answer: Othniel

Othiniel won his bride by conquering the city of Kiriath Sepher. Caleb kept his promise and gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage. Othiniel was a brave warrior, but Israel tended to do evil in the sight of the Lord. When Joshua died, they did not listen to God or obey the commandments He had given them. God delivered them into the hands of their enemies until they cried for mercy. God chose Othiniel to go to war and give them victory.

He became the first judge mentioned in the book of Judges.

As long as he lived afterwards, Israel had peace. (Judges 1-3)

Answer: Samson

Samson was a judge in Israel, but a very foolish man who liked to pick a fight. He got in many bad circumstances with the Philistines because he fell in love with their women. He married once, but because he destroyed the Philistines' crops with fire, they burned his wife to death. Samson became a melancholy Romeo afterwards.

He fell in love with Delilah, who only wanted to get his secrets. He tricked her multiple times, but finally told her the truth about his strength. The Philistines captured Samson and made his life very miserable.

However in his death, Samson killed more Philistines, by collapsing the temple at one of their parties, than he had killed in his entire lifetime. (Judges 15, 16)

Answer: David

King Saul felt threatened by David, because the young boy did something he did not have the courage to do. Saul heard women singing every day about David's victories, particularly the one where he killed Goliath. Saul promised David he could marry his oldest daughter, but gave her to someone else.

When David became angry, Saul offered his youngest daughter Michal, who did love David. He told David he would have to bring the foreskins of a 100 Philistines in order to marry her. He was secretly hoping David would be killed.

However David succeeded and brought back the skins as promised, plus double. When Saul saw the 200 skins, Saul let David and Michal be married. However Saul would attempt to kill David multiple times afterwards. (1 Samuel 18)

Many prophets in the Bible had wives and some were prophetess, but Jeremiah did not have that privilege. God told Jeremiah he could not marry because all the women and children in Jerusalem would be destroyed. God knew Jerusalem was beyond hope and had gone so far into evil things that He had to keep his promise to destroy them.

They were serving idols and sometimes would kill their own children as sacrifices to false gods. Jeremiah was thrown into prison and beaten multiple times for his message, but he never had a family to go to.

He is one bachelor in the Bible that died without a wife. (Jeremiah 16)

Answer: Hosea

God told Hosea to go and marry a prostitute to show Israel what they had done to God. Hosea obeyed and married Gomer. Together they had three children, and Hosea worked hard to give Gomer everything she wanted. However, Gomer would run away and would get in very bad trouble. Each time, Hosea went searching for his wife, forgave her, and brought her back home. Hosea worked hard to provide for his children's needs when their mother was gone and continue to do his work for God.

The last time Gomer ran away, Hosea saw his wife on an auction block for slaves.

He paid the highest price bid with everything he had. Gomer never left him again because he had given everything for her. (Book of Hosea)

Answer: King Xerxes

King Xerxes was having a party and was very drunk when he asked his wife to come out and parade herself in front of his friends. The queen refused. The king was so angry he listened to his foolish advisers and banished her. Later he realized what a terrible mistake he had made and cried.

The advisers suggested he host a beauty contest to select a new queen. Esther was taken away from her family and was among the women selected for the king to choose from. The king loved her immediately and Esther won the contest.

She would be a very wise wife, and would risk her life to save her people. (Esther 1)
