Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start with one that should be extremely easy: On what day of creation did God rest?

Answer: Day 7

God rested on the seventh day, as per Genesis 2:2. Verse 3 in the NKJV goes on state God "blessed the seventh day and sanctified it." Tradition holds Moses wrote Genesis but some modern-day theologians dispute this belief.
2. Genesis 8:4 tells of Noah's ark coming to a rest on the mountains of Ararat after the water had subsided from the Great Flood. According to the verse, in what month did the ark come to a rest?

Answer: The seventh month

According to Genesis 8:4, it was during the seventh month that Noah's ark came to a rest in the mountains of Ararat. The same verse states the momentous event took place on the seventeenth day of the month. Mount Ararat is in the extreme east of present day Turkey.
3. When Jacob blessed his twelve sons, he said one of them "saw that rest was good." What was the name of the son Jacob was referring to, as per Genesis 49:15?

Answer: Issachar

I strongly suspect this was a tough question. The correct answer is Issachar, the son of Jacob and Leah. Jacob's blessing for Issachar appears in Genesis 49:14-16. The verses in the NKJV state: "Issachar is a strong donkey, lying down between two burdens; he saw that rest was good and that the land was pleasant; he bowed his shoulder to bear a burden and became a band of slaves." No further details are given.
4. According to 2 Samuel 7:1 in the NKJV, God gave a king of Israel "rest from all his enemies all around." What was the name of the king who received God's rest?

Answer: David

2 Samuel 7:1 tells of God giving King David "rest from all his enemies all around." The chapter goes on to state Nathan the prophet received word from God that David was to construct a temple for Him in Jerusalem.

In Verse 16, God is quoted as saying David's house and his kingdom would be established. Many Christians believe this is prophecy pertaining to Jesus Christ, as He was of the lineage of David and often described in the New Testament as the Son of David.
5. Using the NKJV, in what Old Testament book do you find the following verse containing the word 'rest'? "A man who wanders from the way of understanding will rest in the assembly of the dead."

Answer: Proverbs

The verse is from Proverbs 21:16, a collection of witty sayings and the like largely written by Solomon. The parents of Solomon were David and Bathsheba. Solomon was noted far and wide for his wisdom in Biblical times.
6. Here's one of my favorite verses from the New Testament of the NKJV: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." In what Gospel do you find this verse quoting Jesus?

Answer: Matthew

The verse is from the Gospel of Matthew 11:28-29, the first book of the New Testament. Matthew, also known as Levi, was a tax collector before he became one of the original Twelve Disciples.

Jesus made the famous statement in Matthew 11 shortly after two unnamed disciples of John the Baptist approached Him wanting to know if He was the 'Coming One'.

In response to the two disciples, Jesus said: "Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."
7. Jesus is quoted as telling His disciples in the NKJV, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." The verse goes on to state, "there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat." What miracle did Jesus perform shortly after making the statement in Mark 6:31?

Answer: Fed a multitude with a pittance of food

After making the statement about going to a deserted place to rest a while, Jesus fed five thousand men with five loaves and two fish. According to Mark 6:30-44, the multitude saw Jesus and His disciples and many followed Him. Others were apparently at the location waiting for Jesus. Verse 33 in the NKJV explains, "they arrived before them and came together to Him."

The passage states Jesus was filled with compassion for the people and would later feed them with the pittance of food. Theologians believe Jesus actually fed fifteen thousand people, not just five thousand men, as women and children were not included in census figures and the like in Biblical times.
8. Luke 11:24 in the NKJV quotes Jesus as saying, "When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.'" Who did Jesus make the remark to?

Answer: A group of people in general

The statement in Luke 11:24 was made by Jesus to a group of people in general. To put the verse in context, here's how Luke 11:24-26 reads in the NKJV: "When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first."

Jesus made the comment after telling the people a house divided cannot stand. Later in the chapter, Jesus goes on to denounce the Pharisees.
9. According to Matthew 26:45 in the NKJV, just prior to His arrest in the Garden Gethsemane, Jesus told three of His disciples, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners." Who were the three disciples Jesus made the statement to?

Answer: Peter, James and John

The three disciples who were either sleeping or resting in the Garden of Gethsemane were Peter, James and John, as per Matthew 26:37. In fact, Matthew 26:36-46 tells of the three disciples either sleeping or resting on three different occasions.

Shortly after the third occasion, Christ would be arrested, setting things in motion for His crucifixion. However, all four Gospels tell of Him triumphantly rising from the dead.
10. The following verse containing the word 'rest' is from a New Testament book using the NKJV: "The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!'" In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Revelation

The verse is found in Revelation 4:8, the last book in the New Testament. The verse is part of a passage in which John, the author of the book, tells of a vision he had in which he saw a throne set in heaven. Tradition holds the writer was the same John who was a member of the original Twelve Disciples. According to Revelation 1:9, John had his vision while he was in exile on the island of Patmos.
