Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who asked Jesus these questions? "What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?"

Answer: Common people who came to see Jesus

Common people who came to see Jesus is the correct answer, as per John 6:30. The questions posed by the people appear in the passage that runs from John 6:22-40 in which Jesus tells of bread from heaven.

In Verse 35 Christ makes the famous declaration: "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."

The statement is the first of seven so-called 'I am Statements' made by Christ in the Gospel of John.
2. Who asked Jesus this question? "Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?'"

Answer: Peter

Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples, is the one who asked the question of Jesus. He asked the question in Luke 8:45, part of a passage telling of an unnamed woman with a serious bleeding problem being cured after she secretly touched Jesus.

According to Scripture, Jesus felt power leaving His body the moment He was secretly touched by the woman and as a result He wanted to know who the person was.

However, Peter was amazed Jesus wanted to know who touched Him as He was in the middle of a large gathering of people and was constantly being touched.

Scripture goes on to tell of a woman who had a so-called incurable bleeding problem coming forward, identifying herself as the person who touched Christ.

According to Verse 43, she had suffered from the condition for twelve years and had "spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any." The moment she touched the edge of His garment "the flow of blood stopped."

When the woman came forward and identified herself to Jesus, He simply responded: "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace."

See Luke 8:40-56 for details.
3. Who asked Jesus this question? "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"

Answer: An unnamed Pharisee

An unnamed Pharisee is quoted as asking Jesus what was the greatest commandment of the law, as per Matthew 22:36.

Christ's response is recorded in Verses 37-39 in the NKJV: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

The verses are easy to read and pleasing to the soul. However, speaking from personal experience, it can be an entirely different matter when we try to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and love our neighbors as ourselves. In other words, it's easy to read, but extremely difficult, if not impossible, to do all the time.
4. Who asked Jesus this question? "Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?"

Answer: The original Twelve Disciples

Mark 14:12 tells of the original Twelve Disciples asking Jesus the question on the "first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover lamb."

Scripture goes on to tell of Jesus sending two of His disciples into Jerusalem where they would be met by a man carrying a pitcher of water. They were instructed to follow the man with the pitcher and "wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says, 'Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?'" Jesus also told them they would be led to "a large upper room, furnished and prepared" and that's where they would observe the Passover.

What would take place would be an event known as the Last Supper.
5. Who asked Jesus this question? "You are not yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?"

Answer: Leaders of the Jews

John 8:57 tells of the leaders of the Jews confronting Jesus and asking Him how He could possibly claim to have seen Abraham as He was not yet fifty years old. In response to their question, Jesus fired back, stating: "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."

With the 'I AM' statement in capital letters, most scholars believe Jesus was making a direct connection with Exodus 3:14 in which God informed Moses His name is 'I AM'.

With that being the case, the NKJV Study Bible states Jesus was claiming to be God Himself!

Yes, others interpret the verse differently and they are entitled to their opinion. I recommend you read John 8:37-59 and form your own opinion.
6. Who asked Jesus these questions? "Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"

Answer: The Pharisees

When the Pharisees asked Jesus the questions, they were attempting, once again, to trick Him. And once again, they wee unsuccessful.

After asking Jesus if it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, He instructed them to show Him a coin. When the Pharisees produced a denarius, Jesus pointed out to them the image, and that the inscription was that of Caesar.

Then Jesus told them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

Scripture goes on to tell of the Pharisees marveling at what He said and "left Him and went their way."

For details, see Matthew Matthew 22:15-22.
7. Who asked Jesus this question? "What is truth?"

Answer: Pilate

Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?" when Jesus appeared before Him after His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. During an exchange, Pilate asked Jesus if He was a king. In response, Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

Christ's remarks prompted Pilate to ask his question about what is truth. Scripture goes on to state that after he asked the question, he went out to the people saying he found "no fault in Him at all."

However, the mob insisted Jesus should be punished and Pilate gave into their demands.

See John 18:28-40.
8. Who asked Jesus this question? "Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her."

Answer: The Sadducees

The question posed in Matthew 22:23-33 was asked by the Sadducees in one of a number of attempts to trap Jesus on His teachings.

The passage tells of Jesus answering them and pointing out they did not know the Scriptures or "the power of God".

In Verse 30 He is quoted as telling the Sadducees, "For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven."

The passage goes on to state the multitudes were "astonished at His teaching."
9. Who asked Jesus this question? "Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away."

Answer: Mary Magdalene

The question was asked of a resurrected Jesus by Mary Magdalene, as per John 20:15. However, at the time Mary did not recognize Jesus, thinking she was talking to the gardener outside of Christ's tomb. Just previously, Mary had found Christ's tomb empty. Scripture goes on to tell of Mary finally realizing she was indeed talking to the resurrected Christ.

As part of His discharge to Mary, Christ tells her to inform others that He had risen from the dead and would be soon ascending to be with the Father.
10. Who asked Jesus this question? "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?"

Answer: Cleopas

The question was asked of Jesus by Cleopas, as per Luke 24:18. In the passage, Luke 18:13-35, an account is given of Cleopas and another unnamed person walking on the road to Emmaus after the crucifixion of Jesus. The passage tells of Jesus joining them while they walked. However, according to Verse 16, "their eyes were restrained" so they did not recognize Him.

In Verse 17, Jesus asks Cleopas and his friend, "What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?" Cleopas responded by asking another question: "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?"

Scripture goes on to give an account of Cleopas reporting about the crucifixion of Jesus, and that word was circulating His tomb was found empty.

After inviting Jesus into their house and while they were breaking bread, they recognized Jesus and He vanished from their sight.
