Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Eve, of course, is the first woman mentioned in Scripture. Who is the second woman? (Genesis 4:19)

Answer: Adah

With the exception of Eve, Adah is the first female mentioned by name in the Old Testament. Her name appears in Genesis 4:19, just before the name of another woman, Zillah. The two women were both married to Lamech, and Adah was the mother of Jabal and Jubal. Jabal is described in Scripture as "the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock," while Jubal is described as "the father of all those who play the harp and flute."

There is another woman in the Bible with the name Adah. According to Scripture, the other Adah was the daughter of Elon and the wife of Esau.
2. According to John 1:42, what was the nickname Jesus gave Peter?

Answer: Cephas

Jesus gave Peter the nickname Cephas, which means stone or rock.

John 1:42, in the NKJV, states: "And he [Andrew] brought him [Peter] to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, 'You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas' (which is translated, A Stone)."

Peter was also known as Simon Peter. It wasn't unusual for characters in the New Testament to have more than one name. For example, there's Matthew and Levi, Bartholomew and Nathanael, Barnabas and Joses, and Paul and Saul.
3. According to 1 Chronicles 4:17-18, who was a daughter of the Pharaoh and the wife of Mered, a descendant of Judah?

Answer: Bithiah

Bithiah, the daughter of the Pharaoh, was married to Mered, an Israelite. Few details are given about her in Scripture as she is mentioned in passing reference. 1 Chronicles 4:17 states she bore Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah

Meanwhile, Wikipedia states in Jewish tradition, Bithiah was kicked out of the Pharaoh's house for sheltering Moses and claiming him as her own child. When the Israelites staged their mass exodus from Egypt, Bithiah accompanied them and ended up marrying Mered, according to tradition.
4. What was the name of the Jewish woman who was the wife of Felix? (Acts 24:24)

Answer: Drusilla

Drusilla, the wife of Felix, is mentioned only once in the Bible -- Acts 24:24. But, of course, there is considerable information about her at various websites, including Wikipedia.

The website Christiananswers.net, for example, reports she was the third and youngest daughter of Herod Agrippa I. The website goes on to report: "Felix, the Roman procurator of Judea, induced her to leave her husband, Azizus, the king of Emesa, and become his wife." The website goes on to report that she and her son perished in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, A.D. 79.

According to the website Biblical-Baby-Names.com, Drusilla means 'watered by the dew.'
5. Out of the four names below, which one was a son-in-law of King Solomon and served as one of the king's twelve regional administrators? (1 Kings 4:11)

Answer: Ben Abinadab

Ben Abinadab is the correct answer. According to Scripture, the governors were responsible for providing food for the king and his household for one month. 1 Kings 4:11 states Ben Abinadab governed over the district of Dor, and his wife was Taphath, the daughter of Solomon.

See 1 Kings 4:7-19 for more details..
6. Which one of the original Twelve Disciples of Jesus was originally a disciple of John the Baptist? (John 1:40)

Answer: Andrew

Andrew, the brother of Peter, is the correct answer. Prior to becoming one of the Twelve Disciples of Jesus, Andrew served as a disciple of John the Baptist, as per
John 1:40.

Andrew, according to John 1:44, was from Bethsaida, a fishing community on the Sea of Galilee. After becoming a disciple of Jesus, his life would never be the same again.
7. Lapidoth has to rank as one of the lesser known men in the Old Testament, even though he was married to a prominent woman. What was the name of Lapidoth's wife?

Answer: Deborah

Deborah was the dynamic female judge of Israel but little is known about her husband Lappidoth as is he mentioned only once in the Bible, and in passing reference. Judges 4:4 simply describes him as the husband on Deborah.

Deborah's story is told in Judges 4 and 5. There's no doubt she was a spark plug who made things happen. According to Judges 4:2, Jabin, king of Canaan, ruled over the Israelites who were cruelly oppressed by Sisera, the commander of his army. Things changed dramatically, however, when Deborah rose to power. The Israelites, led by Deborah and her general Barak, scored a decisive military victory over Sisera and their freedom was gained. According to Judges 4:16, "all Sisera's troops fell by the sword; not a man was left."

In addition to being a judge of Israel, Deborah was a prophetess, as per Judges 4:2.
8. According to Luke 24:50, in what community were Jesus and His disciples when He ascended to heaven?

Answer: Bethany

Scripture states Jesus was at Bethany when He ascended to heaven while His disciples looked on. Luke 24:50-53, in the NKJV Bible, reports: "And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God." Bethany was a small community, just outside Jerusalem.

It was also in Bethany that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, as per John 11.
9. What was the name of the Roman centurion who became a believer in a resurrected Jesus Christ? (Acts 10:1)

Answer: Cornelius

Cornelius was among the first Gentile believers in the early church. His story is told in the tenth chapter of Acts. According to Scripture, Cornelius was a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. Although centurions were the elite of a ruthless Roman killing machine, they are portrayed in a remarkably good light in the New Testament.

According to Scripture, Cornelius and others in his household were baptized by Peter.
10. What was the name of the elderly woman who prophesied about Jesus at the temple? (Luke 2:36-38)

Answer: Anna

After Jesus was presented as an infant at the temple by his parents Mary and Joseph, Scripture states Anna "gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem." According to Luke 2:37, she was the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was of "great age" and a widow. Verse 37 also states Anna "did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day."
