Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'm credited with writing 13 books in the New Testament, more than any other person. Who am I?

Answer: Paul

The correct answer is Paul. There are 13 books in the New Testament that contain his name as the author. The books include Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon. Some people believe Paul also wrote Hebrews, but there is no conclusive proof of this.
2. One of my two names was Tabitha and I was raised from the dead by Peter. Who am I?

Answer: Dorcas

The correct name is Dorcas. The account of Peter raising Tabitha, or Dorcas, from the dead is found in Acts 9:36-43. She is described in verse 36 as "always doing good and helping the poor." Immediately before this miracle, Peter healed Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for eight years.
3. I was a worker in the early church and I was tutored by Priscilla and Aquila. Who am I?

Answer: Apollos

Apollos was tutored by Priscilla and Aquila, the dynamic husband-wife team in the New Testament. Acts 18:24-26 described Apollos as a "learned man who had a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures." Scripture states Priscilla and Aquila invited Apollos into their home "and explained to him the way of God more adequately." Verses 27-28 goes on to state that in Achaia he was "a great help to those who by grace had believed for he vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ." Achaia is an area in Greece.
4. I was the servant girl who went to answer the door after Peter's miraculous escape from prison. I got so excited when I head Peter's voice, I went to tell the other occupants he was at the door, and left him knocking. Who am I?

Answer: Rhoda

Rhoda is the correct answer. She will be always remembered as the highly excitable girl who let her mind wander from the task at hand. It's a good thing Peter was not being chased by would-be captors, as he would have been chopped liver having to stand at the door of the house trying to get in while Rhoda was busy telling everyone else the latest news.

The story in 12:12-16 almost smacks of a scene from a Hollywood sitcom.
5. Apart from Timothy and Silas, I am the only person to have my name included in the salutations of one of Paul's books. Who am I?

Answer: Sosthenes

The correct answer is Sosthenes. Although he is only one of three people to rank in the salutations of Paul's books, little is known about him. Sosthenes' name appears at the beginning of 1 Corinthians. There is a Sosthenes mentioned in Acts 18:17, a Synagogue ruler who was beaten by an unruly mob, but there is no conclusive proof he is the same person referred to by Paul in his salutations in 1 Corinthians. If it is the same person, he obviously had become a Christian after being a ruler of the synagogue.
6. My name is used in a parable by Jesus that tells of a rich man and me (a helpless beggar) living outside his gate. Who am I?

Answer: Lazarus

The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus appears in only the Gospel of Luke, as per chapter 16, verses 19-31. Scripture tells of Lazarus and the rich man dying, with Lazarus ending up by the side of Abraham and the rich man in a place of torment. When the rich man requests that Lazarus come and dip the tip of his finger in water and cool his tongue, Abraham tells him this is not possible because there is a "great chasm" and no one can cross over it.
7. I was a diminutive man but held a big job -- the chief tax collector of Jericho. Who am I?

Answer: Zaccheaus

Zacchaeus, of course, was the short man who climbed up a sycamore tree in Luke 19 to get a better look at Jesus passing through town. Zacchaeus oversaw all the tax collectors in Jericho, a community northeast of Jerusalem, near the Jordan River. According to Wikipedia, Jericho is believed to be one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world.

When Jesus spotted the diminutive tax collector up in a tree, he said, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." No doubt the response took Zacchaeus by complete surprise.

After all, it's not every day a 'celebrity' passes through a community and states to a person he has never met before that he wants to spend the night at his house.
8. I lived in Nain and was the only son of my mother, who was a widow, and then I suddenly died. Jesus, however, raised me from the dead. Who am I?

Answer: No name is given in the Bible

No name is given for the widow's only son who was raised from the dead. In fact no name is given for the widow, either. Nevertheless, it is a heartrending story of Jesus having compassion on the woman and raising her only son from the dead. It was bad enough being a widow in Biblical times, but not to have a son was akin to having no future at all.

The story of Jesus raising the widow's son from the dead is found in Luke 7:11-17. This is the only time Nain is mentioned in the Bible.
9. I was a servant of the high priest and I had my ear severed by Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane. Who am I?

Answer: Malchus

The account of Malchus having his ear severed by Peter can be found in Matthew 26:51, Mark 14:7, Luke 22:50 and John 18:10. I find it highly fascinating that Luke, the physician, is the only one to report about the healing of Malchus' severed ear. John 18:26 tells of one of the high priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had severed, questioning the disciple about being with Jesus. Peter denied the man's claims and Scripture reports the rooster crowed, just like Jesus had predicted.
10. Tradition says I wrote exactly five different books in the New Testament. Who am I?

Answer: John

John, known as the disciple Jesus loved, wrote five books in the Bible. They include the Gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John and Revelation. His last book, Revelation, was written while in exile on the island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea. The island is part of Greece.
