Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where on the human body can you find a deltoid muscle?

Answer: In your shoulder

The deltoid creates the curved, circular shape of your shoulder; there are two, one for each shoulder. The name deltoid was developed from the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, Delta, which is triangle shaped. When viewing the full deltoid muscle, it does resemble a triangle. Deltoid muscles, as you would expect, are the primary muscle for shoulder movement.
2. Where on the human body can the vastus lateralis muscle be found?

Answer: In the thigh

The vastus lateralis is one of the four muscles that make up the quadriceps muscles. They represent the outside of the thigh muscles. So if you have your arms at your sides standing up, your hands are along your vastus lateralii.
3. Where in the human body would you find the sternohyoid muscles?

Answer: In the neck

The sternohyoid muscles are what connect the sternum (breastbone) to your hyoid bone (sometimes called the tongue-bone). The muscle anchors the hyoid in place as the bone is not connected directly to any other bone.
4. Where in the human body would there be an extensor digitorum brevis muscle?

Answer: In the foot

The extensor digitorum brevis muscles run along the top of your feet. They are directly in association with the tendons in your feet. This muscle works primarily with the middle three toes in each of your feet.
5. Where in the human body is the gluteus minimus muscle?

Answer: In the hips

While not the more well known gluteus maximus muscle, it is in direct association with that muscle, with a gluteus medius muscle in between. The muscle is more along the hip line than the buttocks, which the maximus muscle forms.
6. Where is the flexor pollicis brevis muscle on the human body?

Answer: In the thumb

The flexor pollicis brevis is one of three thenar muscles that control parts of the hand. This particular muscle is used to flex the thumb, and is the reason humans are associated with the term "opposable thumbs".
7. Where on the human body could you find the tibialis anterior muscle?

Answer: By the shins

If you know your bone structure, you know the tibia is one of the bones that make up the structure of the lower leg. The tibia is the front bone that gets hit when you bump your shin. The tibialis anterior muscle starts near the top of the tibia and runs down to the top of the foot. This muscle is what is used to flex the foot.
8. Where on the human body would you find the styloglossus muscle?

Answer: In the tongue

The styloglossus muscle makes up the lower tongue. The top part of the tongue is called the dorsum; it contains the taste buds. The muscle forming the lower part of the tongue is the styloglossus. It connects to the temporal styloid part of the skull which hides behind the lower jaw.
9. Where on the human body would the rhomboid muscles be found?

Answer: In the upper back

The rhomboid muscles, the major and minors, sit along the scapula, or shoulder blade. They attach the scapula to the spinal column in the upper part of the back.
10. Where in the human body will you find the levator palpebrae superioris muscle?

Answer: As part of the eye

The levator palpebrae superioris muscle is what elevates the upper eyelid. The eyelid would start to shut without it, not the other way around. A condition called ptosis occurs when there is damage to the levator palpebrae superioris. Ptosis is the scientific term for drooping of the eyelid.
