Schumacher swerved and hit the side of Villeneuve's car.

The impact put Schumacher out of the race but Villeneuve was able to continue and win the championship.

Schumacher rejoined the track and moved over onto the racing line just as Frentzen was approaching. Frentzen spun off the track and Schumacher was given a 10 second stop and go penalty but he recovered to win the race anyway.

The stewards resigned afterwards and Schumacher was allowed to keep his victory.

Schumacher stalled on the grid at Suzuka and was forced to start from the back. He managed to get up to third place before his car run over debris, causing his tyre to puncture. Mika Hakkinen went on to win the title.

Barrichello had dominated the race and was set for victory until Ferrari ordered him to move over and give Schumacher the victory. The move was condemned by observers and Ferrari were fined for breaching the podium protocol when an embarrased Schumacher allowed Barrichello to stand on the top step. Aftewards, the FIA banned team orders.

When Schumacher made his first pit stop, the fuel nozzle got jammed in his car. The fuel splashed out over the car and it caught fire. Schumacher remained in the car and the fire was quickly extinguished. Schumacher exited the pit lane and went on to win the race. Afterwards, he joked that his team had been trying to warm him up.

Schumacher came to Japan for the final race of the 2003 season, needing just one point to beat Kimi Raikkonen to the championship. It was an eventful race for Schumacher who lost his front wing and had to make an unscheduled pitstop. Eventually he fought back and took 8th place and the one point was enough to give him a record-breaking 6th championship.

Schumacher lost control of his car and then deliberately parked it in a dangerous position, meaning that the yellow flags were brought out. The stewards threw Schumacher to the back of the grid for deliberately blocking the track but he maintained his innocence.

Following his victory at the Italian Grand Prix, Schumacher announced that he would retire from F1 at the end of the season. He narrowly missed out on winning an 8th championship, when Fernando Alonso took the title at the final race in Brazil. However, Schumacher would come out of retirement and race for Mercedes from 2010 to 2012. It would be an unsuccessful comeback.
