Michael Schumacher made his F1 debut for Jordan at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. His car broke down on the opening lap, but the Benetton team was convinced of Schumacher's talent and instantly signed him up.

Schumacher had led the race until the first pitstops, but after that his gearbox had gotten jammed in fifth gear. This race is considered to be one of Schumacher's best, even better than many of his victories.

The 1994 season was highly controversial. Schumacher was given a black flag at the British Grand Prix for overtaking Hill on the parade lap. Schumacher ignored the flag and as a result was disqualified from the race, after finishing second. The FIA banned Schumacher from two races. Also, Schumacher was stripped of his victory in the Belgian Grand Prix as the car's undertray was found to be below the accepted tolerance level. Finally, Schumacher crashed into Hill in Australia to seal the title. Schumacher was accused of taking out his rival on purpose.

The suspicion has never lifted.
