Cynthia was the 2004 Canadian Women's Champion. She was a surprise on the scene because at the time of Skate Canada 2003, she was an unknown.
2. Who won the men's short program?

Answer: Jeff Buttle

Due to the new judging system, Jeff was able to place first, even though he did not have a quad or a triple-triple combination in his program.

Answer: Cynthia Phaneuf

Cynthia won against many of the world's top competitors, which means that she could do very well at the World Championships and the Grand Prix Final.
