Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following players was a new addition to the White Sox at the beginning of the season?

Answer: Alex Cintron

Alex Cintron was traded to the Sox at the beginning of the season. David Riske was traded from the Red Sox during the season. Joe Borchard was traded to the Mariners for Matt Thornton prior to the season. Ross Gload had been on the White Sox since 2004.
2. Which of the White Sox starters had the most wins in the season?

Answer: Jon Garland

Garland had 18 wins. Only two other pitchers (Santana and Wang) had more wins than him, but they didn't play for the White Sox. He also had 18 wins in 2005.
3. What song did Scott Podsednik play when he went to bat?

Answer: "Elevation" by U2

Podsednik usually played "Elevation" at least once a game, but sometimes other songs are played for him. The other songs would probably not be very good for him to play, since they do not inspire a lot of confidence.
4. Many of the White Sox players hit grand slams during the 2006 season. Who hit a grand slam off Baltimore Orioles closer Chris Ray?

Answer: Ross Gload

This game was very important for the White Sox, and in the ninth inning the White Sox were losing. At this point, Ray had only blown one save, but Gload got his first home run of the season. He was the last person to get a home run for the team in the season.
5. During the series with the Cubs, one of the Sox players received a suspension after getting into a fight with a Cub. Who was the player that was suspended?

Answer: Brian Anderson

The fight started out with Michael Barret punching A.J., but A.J. just walked back to the dugout. However, Scott Podsednik jumped on Barret, and Anderson punched another Cubs player. Barret and Anderson were the only two players to receive suspensions at that time, but Riske was also suspended at about the same time for hitting a Cardinals player (with a pitch).
6. In 2006, Ozzie Guillen was the manager for the All-Star game. Several of the White Sox players attended the All-Star game. Which of the following players did not attend?

Answer: Joe Crede

Ozzie wanted to bring Crede, but he already brought too many players at third base, so he could not bring Joe. Jose Contreras, Bobby Jenks, Jim Thome, and AJ Pierzynski also attended the All-Star game.
7. Who were the television announcers for the White Sox?

Answer: Ken Harrelson and Darrin Jackson

They are also known as Hawk and DJ. Kenny Williams was the GM, Jerry Reinsdorf was the owner, Nancy Faust was the organist, and Lisa Podsednik was married to Scott.
8. What person on the White Sox had the highest batting average of 1.000 (with no minimum at-bats)?

Answer: Javier Vazquez

Javier only had one at-bat, but he got a hit.
9. 2006 was the first time in Sox history that four players hit 30 or more home runs. Who were the four players?

Answer: Paul Konerko, Jermaine Dye, Joe Crede, Jim Thome

Jermaine Dye had the most home runs with 44, followed by Thome with 42, Konerko with 35, and Crede wiyh 30.
10. The White Sox ended the season with a loss against the Twins, but who did they start the season against?

Answer: Cleveland Indians

They won this meeting, but ended with a 90-72 record.
