1. The 2010 American League Chicago White Sox franchise began it all in 1901 when the American League first began. What was the team name in that 1901 season?

Answer: White Sox

The White Sox and the Detroit Tigers were the only American League teams to go through the entire 20th Century without changing their team name. The White Sox also won the American League's first pennant in 1901. The Chicago White Stockings, often confused with this American League White Sox franchise, played in the National League from 1876-1889. That franchise was later known as the NL Chicago Cubs.
2. The White Sox franchise won the World Series in 1906 and 1917. When would the team's next World Series crown be a reality?

Answer: 2005

It would take three World Series appearances after 1917 before they took another crown. It was a 2005 four games to none win over the Houston Astros. The MVP was Chicago's Jermaine Dye. The other seasons listed, the White Sox more than 100 games in those seasons.
3. Who was the team's first 40-game season winning pitcher?

Answer: Ed Walsh

Only Walsh and Jack Chesbro won 40 games in a season during the entire 20th Century. Walsh went 40-15 in 1908 with the White Sox, retired with 195 wins, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1946. Chesbro went 41-12 in 1904 with the New York Highlanders (later Yankees). He was also inducted into the hall in 1946. The others never played for the White Sox.
4. The Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) began in 1911 for both leagues. In which year did a White Sox player win the award for the first time?

Answer: 1959

It would not be until 1959 with second baseman Nellie Fox before the White Sox were represented with the MVP Award. The White Sox had some great players over the past, but were in competition with names such as Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio, and others. The White Sox have had a host of some fantastic players, but still finished runner-up to the MVP Award.

Some of the White Sox players who were runner-up for the MVP Award were Ed Walsh in 1911 to Ty Cobb, Ed Walsh again to Tris Speaker in 1912, Eddie Collins in 1923 to Yankee Babe Ruth, Eddie Collins again in 1924 to the Senators Walter Johnson, Johnny Mostil to George Burns of the Indians in 1926, Luke Appling in 1936 to Lou Gehrig of the Yankees, and a host of other great White Sox players.
5. The White Sox franchise was marred by the Black Sox World Series Scandal. Which season was this?

Answer: 1919

Key members of the team decided that they weren't being paid enough when it came time to represent the American League in the World Series in 1919 against the Cincinnati Reds. Gamblers along with key players from the White Sox, including Eddie Cicotte and Joe Jackson were fingered after the fact, then suspended from baseball for life in 1920.

The Reds won the series five games to three. Many have wondered what might have been with Joe Jackson, being one of the greatest players in the history of the game.

He signed as a free agent with the Orioles in 1998, then with the Braves, and finally with the Devil Rays in 2000, all via free agency. He wore the number 13 throughout his playing career. In 2005, he won the AL Manager of the Year Award. Ozzie never played for any of the other teams listed.
7. This White Sox player set a Major League record for playing in 2511 games at the same shortstop position on the field throughout his entire career. Who was this?

Answer: Luis Aparicio

The others never played for the White Sox. Wearing the familiar number 11, Luis played his entire career of 18 seasons at shortstop. He never pinch-hit, pinch-ran, and never played any other position. He played 10 seasons for the White Sox, five with the Orioles, and three with the Red Sox. 9. How many times did the White Sox lose 100 games in a season during the entire 20th Century, 100 seasons of their franchise?

Answer: 3

The White Sox had pretty much a consistent franchise, although they were not over-flowing with World Series appearances. It wasn't until 1932 for the team to lose 102 games. They reached the century mark again in 1948, then again in 1970. In comparison, the Dodger franchise went to 18 World Series in the 20th Century, and lost 100+ games twice. Even the Yankees hit the century mark twice.

The Athletics franchise hit that mark 16 times during the same time period, although making 14 World Series appearances.
10. The franchise began playing their home games at South Side Park II in 1901, then moved into the new Comiskey Park in 1911. In which year did the White Sox play their last game in Comiskey Park?
