Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene of "The Andorian Incident", a number of Vulcan monks look on as the door to their sanctuary is forced open by armed Andorians. How many commandos?

Answer: Four

Andorians are blue-skinned with white hair and two cranial antennae. They are depicted as being suspicious and volatile. As relatively close neighbours with the Vulcans, their relationship has not always been good, and even though they have a treaty relationship, the Vulcans and Andorians are in the equivalent of a cold war.

The leader of the Andorian commandos is Thy'lek Shran, who was played by Jeffrey Combs. His three subordinates were Tholos (Steven Dennis), Keval (Jeff Ricketts), and Thon (Gregg Sargeant).
2. Captain Archer and Commander Tucker are perusing the star charts along the Enterprise's trajectory and they find a record of an outpost. When they ask Sub-Commander T'Pol about it, she tells them it is an ancient Vulcan spiritual retreat. What is the retreat's name?

Answer: P'Jem

Gol, Kir and Raal are all cities on Vulcan, while P'Jem's location is somewhere near Andorian space. In use since the 9th century BC (Earth calendar), it has been a place of quiet contemplation and the emotion-purging ritual of Kolinahr. On more than one occasion, Andorians have come to search the sanctuary, believing there to be a hidden sensor array that the Vulcans have been using to spy on them.

Scott Bakula played Captain Jonathan Archer, Connor Trinneer acted as Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III, and Jolene Blalock was Sub-Commander T'Pol.
3. T'Pol runs through the protocols of the monastery for Trip and the Captain. Which of these is NOT one of them?

Answer: Refuse any food or drink offered to you.

As you might imagine, T'Pol is very reluctant about the whole idea of the Enterprise visiting the P'Jem monastery. She is very concerned that the emotional humans might do something to offend or disturb the monks, and is quite adamant that the protocols be carefully observed.

She also mentioned one more guideline - not to approach or try to speak to anyone who appears to be meditating.
4. Upon arrival to the monastery, Archer, Tucker and T'Pol are greeted in the atrium by a Vulcan Elder. He tries to get them to leave, claiming the monks are in seclusion for Kolinahr, but a number of things make them suspicious that something is wrong. Captain Archer is the one to spot an Andorian trying to hide.

Answer: True

The first thing that the three Enterprise officers notice is that it looks as though the outer doors have been smashed in. Then, no one answers the bell, they enter the atrium before someone finally comes to meet them. The monk is pleasant enough, but he tries to dissuade them from their visit, stating that the monks are in seclusion.

T'Pol notices the overturned figure of Surak, and comments to Archer and Tucker that there are too few monks in the atrium. The two male officers insist on looking around, and Tucker asks the monk about a broken vase, which is dismissed as a consequence of facing violent emotions in the pursuit of Kolinahr.

Archer spots an Andorian hiding (in a reflection on an urn), and he and Tucker try to take him by surprise. It is all for naught, however, as the other three commandos enter and take them all captive.

The Vulcan Elder was played by Bruce French.
5. Back on the ship, Lieutenant Reed is concerned that they have not heard from the landing party. What does he gripe about there being a lack of on the Enterprise?

Answer: Standard operating procedures

The Enterprise sensors detect another spacecraft on the planet's surface, and Reed wonders why it is not a standard operating procedure to scan for other ships BEFORE sending off an away team.

Ensigns Travis Mayweather and Hoshi Sato argue in turn that the landing party are probably just taking a tour or observing a meditation ritual. Sato asks if they should be expected to check in every ten minutes, and Reed suggests that perhaps THAT should be standard operating procedure as well.

Lieutenant Reed was played by Dominic Keating, Ensign Mayweather was played by Anthony Montgomery, and Ensign Sato was played by Linda Park.
6. The Andorians beat on Captain Archer while questioning him about his purpose in coming to the monastery. When Lt. Reed calls on Archer's communicator, Commander Shran lets Archer respond, forcing him to tell Reed that everything is alright.

Answer: False

When Reed calls on the communicator, it is Commander Shran that responds. He states that he has the three Enterprise officers as hostages, and will kill them if any attempt is made to approach the planet or to power weapons. He then smashes the communicator. Reed immediately tries to contact Tucker and T'Pol on their respective communicators, but Shran has them both and smashes them as well, without a further response.
7. One of the Andorian commandos continually makes lewd comments and suggestions towards T'Pol. Which one?

Answer: Tholos

Tholos is your typical slime bag, looking at T'Pol with lustful eyes and making sexual insinuations. At one point he wonders about "her world's exotic mating rituals."

When Archer stands up and tells him to leave her alone, he is threatened with death.
8. Lt. Reed leads a small rescue team, using the transporter to get into the monastery. Who does he take with him?

Answer: Two tactical crewmen

After expressing some concern over using the transporter, Lt. Reed beams down with two crewmen of his tactical team. No names are mentioned in the episode. They beam into the room where the hostages are being held, and slip into the hidden passageway into the catacombs. From there they go and set an explosive charge on the opposite side of the atrium wall, where the Andorians are.

The Andorians register the surge in power, but as they do not have their own transporter technology, they are unsure of what has happened. Thalos is sent to investigate. Tucker tries to subdue him, but gets a beating in return. Only the intervention of Lt. Reed (coming back from setting the charge) keeps the same from happening to Archer.

The explosion takes out only one of the Andorians (Thon), leaving Shran and Keval to escape capture.
9. Shran and Keval escape into the catacombs and are pursued by Reed, T'Pol and Archer right down in to the forbidden reliquary. During the firefight, a hidden metal door is revealed. What do they find behind it?

Answer: A multi-level spy station

With this discovery, it becomes immediately apparent that the Andorians had been right in their suspicions all along. Reed remarks that the sensor array is powerful enough to see "what every Andorian is having for breakfast." The Vulcan initiate that had accompanied them in their pursuit of the Andorians tries to take them all captive, but Archer handily takes him out with a satisfying punch.

Archer has T'Pol take a full scan of the spy station, which he then has her hand over to Commander Shran. She makes no argument, showing her loyalty to Archer in the face of an obvious duplicity shown by her own people.

The unnamed Vulcan initiate was played by Richard Tanner.
10. "The Andorian Incident" was directed by a "Voyager" cast member whose character was known for her temper. Who?

Answer: Roxann Dawson

Roxann Dawson (formerly Biggs-Dawson) played the role of the half Human / half Klingon B'Elanna Torres on "Star Trek: Voyager". The first time she directed a "Trek" episode was for the "Voyager" 6th season episode "Riddles". "The Andorian Incident" was the first of ten "Enterprise" episodes directed by Dawson.
