The episode began with Martha getting a little nervous since it was only two days until she performed in a local production. Her odd ritual was to constantly repeat her character's first line for the two days prior to the production. Whether she's starred in a play, movie, or television show, this has always been Martha's game plan to understanding her characters.

Sid Ross, the creator behind the sketch show known as "Saturday Night Tonight", was found dead in this episode. He was strangled with his own tie and then the killer tossed him down an elevator shaft.

The team started to investigate down at the show's studio with the hopes of finding any clues that could lead them to the killer. One person that was interviewed was the head of the show's production company: Gene Vogel. Gene also decided that taping would continue on as scheduled despite the recent events.

Gene Vogel mentioned to the team that most the staff was at the studio on the day that Sid Ross was murdered. One of the actors at the studio was Mickey Franks, who exuded a temperamental attitude and was about to be fired as a result of it. He charged at Kate so this led to him being arrested.

At police headquarters, Mickey Franks stated that Sid Ross mentioned there was a major deal that was going down at midnight. He alluded to the fact that guest host Danny Valentine might know something about it. Castle and Kate went to question Danny Valentine, who was rehearsing a skit that had to do with both Castle and Kate.

Castle and Kate asked Danny to provide them whatever information he had about Sid's death. Danny claimed that Sid left the studio at one part of the day he was murdered in order to take a subway ride to Brooklyn. As Sid walked to the subway, there were shots that rang out in an alley.

After learning that Sid ran from gunshots in an alley, it was assumed the gunman was a local drug kingpin by the name of Kurt Van Zant. It was revealed that Kurt funded a show that made Sid rich. Danny Valentine had ordered a guest pass for Van Zant so he could access the studio and thus encounter Sid.

Kurt Van Zant stated that he and Sid made a deal where Sid would help him obtain an unregistered gun. The gun was to be used to help Van Zant locate his wife, Evelyn, who had gone missing. Van Zant believed that she was a victim of a kidnapping.

When Castle went to the studio in one scene, he was surprised to see that famed singer Carly Rae Jepsen was there. She revealed that she was the musical guest on the episode that was being filmed. She sang her song, "I Really Like You", which led to Castle and Kate sharing a dance.

Chad was the one who helped facilitate Kurt Van Zant getting a guest pass to be on the studio set. While at the studio, Richard noticed that Chad had been wearing a ring that resembled the one Evelyn's abductor wore. This made Chad a suspect, especially as he also had a gun in his apartment. However, Chad claimed he was innocent despite the evidence pointing to him.
