Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Good moaning'

Answer: Officer Crabtree

In the eyes of many, this is the quintessential 'Allo Allo!' line. Other stunning lines in Crabtree's collection are: 'I have good nose' and 'Hole Hotler!'.

Strangely enough, Arthur Bostrom (Crabtree) speaks fluent French...
2. 'Tler!' (Here's a clue: everyone else usually said something quite different.)

Answer: Captain Hans Geering

Or 'Klop!', if you will. This is what always came out of Captain Hans' mouth when everyone else was saying 'Heil Hitler!'

It was also Hans that said the epic line: 'Do you not see? That if you kill him with the pill from the till by making with it the drug in the jug, you need not light the candle with the handle on the gāteau from the chāteau.'
3. 'Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.'

Answer: Michelle of the Resistance

Or, 'only wernce', to be more precise. Quite often, people didn't quite catch what she said initially, so she had to say 'I shall say this only once' more than once...
4. Which character was prone to drop his 'little tank' into the conversation?

Answer: Lieutenant Gruber

After Captain Hans left the show, Gruber stepped into the role of Colonel von Strohm's right hand man. As we all know, being the Colonel's sidekick tends to involve secreting quite a number of things in your trousers and trying to act natural.
5. When cunningly disguised, who commonly announced themselves by saying 'It is I...'

Answer: Leclerc

He'd say this whilst raising his spectacles, which were usually a main component of the cunning disguise. Rene once commented that Roger Leclerc was 'A man of a thousand faces, every one the same.'
6. As he was a member of 'ze Gestapo', everyone had a tendency to say 'Yes, Herr Flick'. One character in particular said it rather a lot. Who was it?

Answer: Helga Geerhart

Captain Helga Geerhart made no secret of the fact that she found Herr Flick 'most exciting'...quite a few others made it no secret that they were very appreciative of Helga's charms, including General von Klinkerhoffen, who called her 'a shining example of German womanhood'.

Helga is also memorable for her wonderful shouting voice, and her special underwear with 'ze liddle swastikas' on it.
7. 'Whadda mistake-a to make-a'

Answer: Captain Bertorelli

Captain Alberto Bertorelli was perhaps the only person who could tolerate Madame Edith's singing, and was perpetually ogling one beautiful 'laiydee' or the other. The exuberant Captain was played with gusto by Gavin Richards from seasons four to six, then by Roger Kitter in season seven.
8. On many occasions you could hear various women exclaiming...'Oh Rene....crush me to you!', but one said it quite a lot. Who was she?

Answer: Yvette Carte-Blanche

Yvette could often be heard saying this to her sweetheart, Rene. Rene got around quite a bit, as besides being married to Madame Edith, he was having it off with both Yvette and Maria. When Maria left, and was replaced by Mimi la Bonque, she quickly took a shine to Rene too. Denise Laroque (of the Communist Resistance) also pursued him after discovering that he was her long-lost childhood sweetheart.
9. 'Oh....my dicky ticker...'

Answer: Monsieur Alfonse

Monsieur Alfonse was a martyr to his dicky ticker (he was more often than not on the point of a major heart attack) and his tricky truss. I was in two minds whether to choose that quote, or 'Swiftly and with style', another staple Monsieur Alfonse line.

The well-dressed funeral director paid court to Madame Edith, much to Rene's chagrin (Rene wanted to hang on to Edith's assets. Her financial ones, anyway).
10. And finally...'You stupid woman!'

Answer: Rene Artois

Rene would say this emphatically whenever Madame Edith caught him with a female of the opposite sex (usually Yvette, Mimi or Maria). He would then provide a perfectly logical explanation for why he was in such a compromising position....and he always got away with it!
