Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why was Steve Rogers excluded from the military draft?

Answer: He had polio.

Steve Rogers wasn't eligible for the draft due to his polio, but he still wanted to serve his country. When the opportunity to volunteer for the experimental super soldier program arose he was first in line. He ended up being the only America to be made into a super soldier, when the scientist who created the process was killed.
2. Which war was taking place at the beginning of the story?

Answer: WWII

Early scenes were set in 1945. Steve Rogers volunteered for "Project ReBirth" in 1945 and was sent off to fight the Nazi's and their own super soldier The Red Skull.

The movie then flashes forward to the 1990s for the majority of the story.
3. Carla Cassola played Dr. Maria Vaselli, the character who created the super soldier serum. What country was the character from?

Answer: Italy

Dr. Maria Vaselli was forced into turning a child into the Red Skull by the Nazi's. She fled the country and came to the U.S.

Seven years later she had perfected the serum and gave it to a volunteer as part of "Project ReBirth".

Just prior to giving Steve Rogers the serum she mentioned that "This isn't Mussolini's Italy".

The character was killed soon after creating Captain America.
4. Who won the first battle between Captain America and the Red Skull?

Answer: Red Skull

Red Skull had the same serum flowing through his veins, but had seven years of fight training with him.

Red Skull easily bested Cap in hand to hand combat, then strapped him to a rocket and launched it at a target in the U.S.

The rocket went off course, never reaching the U.S. (thanks to Cap redirecting it at that last moment). Cap was presumed dead and the movie flashed to present day.
5. Steve Rogers' body was found sealed in ice, discovered by an Alaskan survey crew. His DNA was used to recreate "Project ReBirth".

Answer: False

There was no need to recreate the program; once the block of ice he was trapped in started to thaw, Steve Rogers broke out of it and ran out of the surveyors tent.

He remained the only U.S. soldier with the serum as it still wasn't able to be reproduced.
6. Sam Kolawetz was a childhood friend of Pres. Thomas Kimball. What career did Sam go into?

Answer: Journalism

Sam Kolawetz worked at the Washington Gazette. Both he and Pres. Kimball were fans of the comic book character Dr. Midnight growing up.

When Kimball saw Captain America briefly as a child, the two spent an evening trying to figure out which comic book hero he was.

Later in life Kolawetz went on a search for Cap when he was rediscovered in the Alaskan wilderness.
7. What country was Pres. Kimball in when he was kidnapped?

Answer: Italy

Kimball was kidnapped by 20 armed men. The group was working for the Red Skull. When the president was kidnapped, Gen. Fleming went on TV to talk about. Fleming was working with Red Skull secretly and wanted to kill Kimball.
8. What was the Red Skull's ultimate goal with his evil plan?

Answer: Become president of the U.S.

Red Skull had the U.S. president kidnapped and drugged.

The details of the plan were never revealed, but somehow Red Skull planned to become the president through the kidnapping.

Instead of becoming president, he was thwarted and killed.
9. Sam Kolawetz mentioned to Captain America that Red Skull was thought to be responsible for the deaths of three prominent Americans. Which one was not one of them?

Answer: Babe Ruth

Sam Kolawetz was a newspaper reporter, but also a bit of a conspiracy nut.

He told Cap about the three suspected murders not long after meeting him. At that point Cap had only been awake in the 1990s for a few minutes of screen time.

Kolawetz then realized that Cap wouldn't know who any of those three people were.
10. Captain America was killed in the final fight.

Answer: False

Cap managed to survive heavy gunfire and overcome Red Skull's attacks.

He won the fight, not through fisticuffs, but with a recording of Red Skull playing the piano from his youth. The recording happened to end with the murder of Red Skull's parents.

The recording was enough to distract Red Skull, allowing Cap to stop the missile launch that was about to take place.

Launching the missile was the second phase of Red Skull's plan after Pres. Kimball had escaped.
