We never actually see Tanner, just occasional camera shots from his perspective and projectile toys from off-camera. It adds to the sense of danger and menace...

2. Why does Wanda need a babysitter?

Answer: Dentist appointment

Wanda refuses to see the local "sadistic" dentist ("His first name is Lance!") so she and Brent look for one in the phone book. Brent selects a dentist with a good, "solid" name that could sound like someone you'd want to help you work on your house ("Want to go for a beer later, Sammy?") but Wanda will have to go in to Sasaktoon for the appointment.

Using their full name "gets their attention". Open-ended threats such as "I'm coming up there, and I won't be coming empty-handed" and "If I have to come in there you're not going to like what happens" work, because according to Emma a child's imagination is a child's greatest strength and also their weakness. They will fill in the blank with the most awful thing they can think of.

"You mean Wanda?" She replies that he phoned his OWN Mommy, Emma, and Hank reveals that Lacey must therefore have won the bet.
