Bernie Kopell (born 1933) started his career as a casino employee in the TV series "Whispering Smith" in 1961. He is best known for his role as Doc Adam Bricker in "The Love Boat", and also played the very same character in an episode of the TV series "Saturday Night Live" and an episode of "Martin".
The red herrings are actors from the TV series "Allo Allo": Gorden Kaye plays René Artois, Richard Marner plays Colonel Kurt von Strohm and Guy Siner plays Lieutenant Hubert Gruber.

Jill Whelan played the role of Vicki Stubing, the daughter of Captain Merill Stubing.
In this particular episode, Vicki receives some pills from her boyfriend. When her boyfriend gets ill, Doc Bricker finds out the boyfriend is a drug addict, and the patient's mother accuses Vicki of dealing drugs.
