Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many teams completed the trout-catching 'Swim' Detour task in Calgary (in Leg 2)?

Answer: Eight

In Leg 2, teams found their first Detour task in Calgary, Alberta. The first choice was 'Sim', where Joel and Ashley got their next task by completing a training simulation involving cranes and heavy machinery. When they both completed the simulation in a combined six minutes, they headed to the Pit Stop.

In 'Swim', the eight remaining teams ended up heading to a fish hatchery where they had to corral trout in a pen and transfer all the fish into a smaller container using nets.
2. What did teams transport in the 'Hydrate' Detour task in Cai Be, Vietnam (in Leg 3)?

Answer: Coconuts

In Leg 3, teams completed tasks in and around the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. In 'Hydrate', teams transported sixty coconuts downriver in a sampan while in 'Vibrate', they learned a ceremonial drum dance. The 'Hyrdate' task proved extremely physical as Anne and Tanya were marred, ironically, by dehydration. Joel and Ashley, Kelly and Kate, Rita and Yvette, and Frankie and Amy ended up completing 'Vibrate', learning the complex moves in a Vietnamese temple, while Jillian and Emmett, Anne and Tanya, Steph and Kristen, Julie and Lowell and Stephane and Antoine transported coconuts.
3. In Leg 4, teams visited a karaoke bar for the 'V-Pop' Detour option in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. What was the name of the song they were asked to learn?

Answer: Shine Your Light

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in Leg 4, teams ended the leg with a Detour task taking them to either Glow SkyBar or Kingdom Karaoke. In the former task, 'Flip-Flop', they had to learn the intricate movements of flair bartending, creating a drink called 'Hello, Vietnam' to the exacting specifications of their bartending trainers.

In the latter, 'V-Pop', teams instead had to learn a song, "Shine Your Light", in Vietnamese and perform the duet for a crowd of patrons at a local karaoke bar. Joel and Ashley, Steph and Kristen, Jillian and Emmett, and Anne and Tanya completed 'Flip-Flop' while Kelly and Kate, Frankie and Amy, Rita and Yvette, and Julie and Lowell completed 'V-Pop'.
4. How many teams finished the 'Dry Dock' Detour task in Hamilton in Leg 6?

Answer: Two

In Hamilton, teams either pursued the arts or went to the local industries. In 'Art Rock', teams went to the Collective Arts Brewing Company and completed an art-related task, spray painting a beer label using stencils and specific colours in a required order.

This was finished by Julie and Lowell, Frankie and Amy, Rita and Yvette, and Joel and Ashley. In 'Dry Dock', teams needed to head to Heddle Marine Services to learn how to weld. When both team members welded eight inches of steel and prevented all leaks, they could head to the Pit Stop. Steph and Kristen and Jillian and Emmett finished this one.
5. In Leg 7, teams completing the 'Off the Field' Detour task did so at what prestigious Canadian university?

Answer: Queen's University

In Kingston, Ontario, teams needed to find Nixon Field on the Queen's University campus to attempt the 'Off the Field' option of their Detour. For this task, each team member needed to don a zorb ball and proceed down the field completing a series of team-oriented soccer drills, hindered in movement by the bulky accessory. If they could work together and complete the series of tasks in twenty-five seconds, they could continue on with the race. Steph and Kristen, Jillian and Emmett, and Joel and Ashley finished this task.
6. Which team, in addition to completing the 'Off the Field' Detour task, was also required to complete the 'Offshore' Detour task in Leg 7 (in Kingston)?

Answer: Joel and Ashley

Teams opting out of the highly-physical, coordination-centric 'On the Field' task instead went to the Kingston Yacht Club for 'Offshore', a task requiring that they rig up a sailboat and sail it out into the river to collect their next clue from a buoy floating in the water. Frankie and Amy, Rita and Yvette, and Julie and Lowell ended up completing this task of their own accord while Joel and Ashley and Jillian and Emmett were forced to complete both Detour tasks, having been forced at the Double U-Turn at Kingston Penitentiary.
7. Which team was injured while completing the 'Sugar' Detour task in Havana, Cuba?

Answer: Steph and Kristen

Visiting the Havana Club Rum Museum in Havana, Cuba, teams completing the 'Sugar' Detour option in Leg 8 were forced to use manual grinders to crush sugar cane into juice extracts which could then be used to mix alcoholic drinks. During this process, Steph injured her hand with a machete in an attempt to break free a stuck piece of sugar cane.

After medical aid, she was allowed to continue racing. Other teams completed 'Shake' instead, learning a traditional salsa dance in a local park to perfection.
8. In Leg 9, teams completed Detour tasks in which Canadian province?

Answer: Nova Scotia

Both Detour options involved the Scottish heritage found on Cape Breton Island. In both tasks, teams donned traditional Scottish outfits and completed physical tasks. In 'Feel the Burn', completed by the majority of teams, teams worked on three different tasks from the Scottish Highland Games: the caber toss, the farmer's walk, and the stone's throw.

In 'Feel the Rhythm', teams needed to put their dance skills to good use and learn a typical Scottish dance, performing it in unison with local dancers on a stage.

But that wasn't all...
9. How many teams were U-Turned in Leg 9?

Answer: Two

Immediately following the Detour on Cape Breton Island in Leg 9, teams ended up racing on foot across the Scottish Highland Museum grounds to their second of two Double U-Turn boards. Reaching the Blackhouse, Steph and Kristen used the U-Turn on Joel and Ashley (despite promising that they wouldn't in Kingston) while Jillian and Emmett used theirs on Rita and Yvette to keep Frankie and Amy in the game.

This forced both U-Turned teams do go back and complete the physically-intensive 'Feel the Burn' task.
10. The same final Detour task of the race (in New Brunswick in Leg 10) was chosen by all four teams.

Answer: True

In the penultimate leg of the race, the final four teams completed the last Detour task in Saint John, New Brunswick. For this, all four teams ended up heading to the Crosby's Molasses factory for the '1879' task. There, using molasses, teams needed to use scientific baking recipes to create 650 grams of taffy. If they could create it to the proper consistency, they would be able to get their next clue.

In '1867', teams instead needed to head to the Moosehead Brewery to pull bottles off the production line to fill two dozen boxes.
