"Dexter" 1.7 "Circle Of Friends" Quiz

Dexter is practicing the formation of blood spatter patterns as we hear him think these thoughts. He goes on to think: "We don't get together at conventions, share secrets or trade Christmas cards. But sometimes I wonder what it's like for the others".

As the camera pans out we see that he is at a crime scene, standing over a body, trying to re-create the movements that would have caused the spatter patterns nearby.

The ever-exasperated Doakes approaches Dexter and says: "I swear, Morgan, after this case I'm submitting your ass for psychiatric evaluation".

Answer: "Lopez has the trots"

Angel wakes Debra up from sleeping at the station ("You're drooling on LaGuerta's couch") to give her this gem of information. As he stirs his coffee he asks why she is still there. She replies: "Why not? There's nothing at home except and empty fridge and an empty bed".

Angel observes: "If I was only ten years younger...". Debra notes: "I'd still be in high school, keep dreaming".

Answer: Timothy McVeigh

Angel notes: "Timothy McVeigh drove way too fast on his way out of town". When they check the database Debra recognises the name of Neil Perry as being a person that was previously interviewed in connection with the Tony Tucci crime.

Angel reads from the screen: "He rolled through a stop sign two blocks away from the third crime scene at the Seven Seas Motel. Why would a voluntary witness be at two separate crime scenes?"

Answer: Aluminum

When Debra and Angel to go Perry's residence, courtesy of an address obtained from the D.M.V., Debra notes: "Something has gotta be wrong with someone that they could live in a steel box". Angel corrects her: "Aluminum, actually. Nina and I had a deluxe multi-sectional. It was our starter home".

Answer: A garden gnome

Perry has spotted the approach of the two detectives on a surveillance camera. He crawls out from underneath his house via a door, which swings open and knocks down a poor innocent gnome which was simply minding its own business!

For good measure he slashes the tire of the police car before making his getaway.

Answer: They have been picked up already

Rita arrives at the Bayside Elementary School, only to be told by a man named Charlie that "Your husband swung by a few minutes ago, he didn't tell you?" Rita freaks out: "You gave my children to Paul? Are you stupid? I told the administrative office that Cody and Astor are not to be released into his custody".

Charlie: "Well, nobody told me". Rita: "He just got out of jail".

Uh oh. The spam is going to hit the fan over this one.

Answer: "Hey dude, bowling alley's around the corner"

"Hey dude, bowling alley's around the corner"! This obviously peeves Dexter slightly. He tells the boy he is looking for Jeremy Downs. The boy replies by strumming on his guitar in time with his answer: "He - va - cated the premises".

When pressed again about Jeremy, the boy replies that he is not into the kind of stuff that Jeremy did, but "I'm kind of short on money for weed, so, I guess I'll do it for less than Jeremy was charging. Wait! What does Jeremy charge?"

Answer: On the back nine

"It's my day off. I was on the back nine at Don Shula's famous golf course". Doakes then enters and says: Wait! I'm onto you". This disturbs Dexter because he thinks Doakes is referring to a recent operation in a park where Dexter inadvertently found himself in the middle of the bust, as he was separately pursuing Jeremy Downs.

Doakes continues: "You were right - you said the killer had previous experience, he did". It turns out that Jeremy had been the killer that struck in the alley. Doakes: "We just picked him up in Flamingo Park".

Of course, Dexter already knew this, and had been pursuing Jeremy for the same reason. Doakes says: "Your instincts were dead on. They're always dead on when it comes to serial killers. Why is that?" Dexter says he will go to and get the report that he was called in for. He leaves to the sound of Doakes saying: "I'm watching you...".

Answer: yahoo

This thought of Dexter's occurs following a scene where Paul again arrives at Rita's house unannounced. Dexter refuses to let him in. Paul attempts to belittle Dexter by referring to him as the babysitter; reason his way in by stating he is the owner of the house; play the sympathy card by showing the stuffed animals he has brought over for his "little buckets of sunshine"; and finally, threaten Dexter by pretending that he is going to punch him.

As a matter of interest, the Online Etymology Dictionary lists a yahoo as being "a brute in human form, 1726, from the race of brutish human creatures in Swift's "Gulliver's Travels".

Answer: Popcorn

As the interrogation begins, Masuka (who is already sitting up front) asks: "Anybody bring any popcorn?" Angel says: "I can't hear anything. Who's got the remote?". Nobody volunteers it, so Masuka adjusts the volume manually.

Dexter asks where Perry's lawyer is, and Angel says that he waived the right.

Answer: The Sorbonne

This conversation takes place at Tony Tucci's party prior to leaving the hospital. Debra tells Rudy that what he does (in relation to having crafted prosthetic limbs) "is living art". In a somewhat obvious come-on, Rudy replies: "It's funny you should say that because before I turned to prosthetics I studied the human form at the University of Paris - Sorbonne".

It worked, and before you can say "artificial prosthetic lower leg replacement" they are seen snogging over some take away food and the hood of a car!

Answer: Sixteen

This conversation takes place outside Juan's, a shop shaped like a giant hot dog, that according to its advertising, sells hot dogs, perros and calientes.

Debra: "My mum died when I was sixteen - cancer. And then it was just me and my brother and my dad". Debra goes on to admit a level of jealousy that her dad spent more time with Dexter than with her.

Dexter picks up the paper and the headline reads "Police Capture Ice Truck Suspect". Further down the front page, a separate article regarding Jeremy Downs reads "Teen Killer Arrested Again".

Jeremy is subsequently found dead in his cell - he had committed suicide. Dexter reflects: "Jeremy did hear my advice. He killed someone who deserved to die".

Answer: He takes the credit for the Perry arrest

Matthews enters LaGuerta's office and praises her efforts in tracking down Perry and his subsequent arrest: "It feels good to be praising your police work instead of your politics for a change". LaGuerta smiles and replies: "We need to make an official comment. Don't worry, I'll make it short. Just heading downstairs now for the press conference".

Matthews replies: "Press conference is over. Oh, and don't worry, I kept it short". LaGuerta reacts badly: "You gotta be kidding me - that was my bust". Matthews replies laconically: "This is my Department".

LaGuerta attempts to salvage something from the wreckage: "Did you at least give me credit?" Matthews (snidely): "Yes, I just gave it to you. Haven't you been listening?"

Booo! Hiss!

Answer: Perry doesn't have a clue who Dexter is

A tense scene ensues as Perry is led into the interview room, manacled. He sits down and Dexter finally says "Hi". A broad smile comes to Dexter's face when Perry's responses to him clearly indicate that he does not recognise his questioner.

It is at this point that Dexter's original notions that Perry is a fraud are confirmed. Dexter can continue with his work, after all!
