Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Kai tells the men in his stead about great leaders in their time. Who of these was not one of them?

Answer: Charles Manson

Kai discusses Heaven's Gate, a cult in Rancho Santa Fe. Thirty-nine members of the cult consumed a mix of pudding, apple sauce, and phenobarbital and, he claims, their decision to leave their Earthly vessels and ascend into the spaceship in the tail of a comet made sense at the time. It was also no wonder that, in 1993, the government ended up looking into the workings of David Koresh, the leader of the Branch Davidians, in his compound in Waco to ensure that cult activities weren't happening. They were.
None of these were as influential though, he claims, as Jim Jones, founder of The Peoples Temple, who popularized the phrase 'drink the Kool-Aid' and moved a thousand of his followers to Guyana to build his utopia. There was no going back.
He tells the men staying in his house that these were all great figures, asking them to understand that he is like them. He isn't looking to kill his men like the other leaders, but he is looking for someone who would be willing to die out of loyalty. His men seem inclined to do this. He tells them to get some rest, and on Monday, at the city council meeting, he has a surprise.
2. Kai passes a motion on city council regarding which of these concerning hot button issues?

Answer: Internet censorship

At the city council meeting, Kai urges his fellow councilmen to vote with him to set the town up on a private server, restricting all residents to avoid sites he deems require censorship. Sure enough, with apparent force, he seems to get the votes he needs to pass this Kai Anderson Internet Freedom and Integrity Act.

He also announces to his constituents that he plans to announce his candidacy for the United States Senate in 2018 despite going head-to-head against a popular incumbent candidate who's held the position for three consecutive terms.

He warns his fellow council members that anything can happen.
3. Ivy claims she only joined Kai's following because she likes being a part of the herd.

Answer: False

At home, Ally and Ivy have the discussion that was only inevitable, sorting out why each of them joined Kai's group and why Ivy tried to destroy the family. Ivy claims that Ally was a mess and the butchery wasn't worth it anymore; there was no structure in her life and she just wanted someone to tell her what to do.

She was so angry with Ally that she hated her and she wanted to do something else. Ally points out the one crucial thing: people died because of her. Ivy says she was planning on getting out since Kai is a demagogue and a manipulator and Ally says she only went back to get her out to save Oz, even if that means they aren't together as a family when all is said and done. Winter brings Oz home and they're reunited, but before Ally can spend time with him, Ally sends him upstairs with a 'Twisty the Clown' comic book; the adults need to chat.
4. Winter receives some helpful tips about how to leave a cult from which source?

Answer: WikiHow

Winter apologizes for everything; the election made her lose her mind, she says, and she tried to follow her family, but Kai killed their brother. They need to run away, she asserts, since it's the only way. She found a list on WikiHow of steps to take when leaving a cult.

They decide then and there-- they leave without taking their things. Unfortunately, the impulsive plan is put to an immediate halt when there's a loud banging at the door. Kai's men inform the women that the Divine Ruler has requested a meeting, and they all need to go to his compound. The women are brought to the basement of Kai's house and Beverly is brought out to meet them.

She goes berserk, immediately attacking Winter for the lies she told her brother about Detective Samuels' death. Kai's men have to split them up and Kai tells them that they all need to stop fighting amongst themselves to be stronger as a whole.
5. Who is the first to drink Kai's Kool-Aid?

Answer: Beverly

Kai decides to make them his first subjects for his radical idea, and when he brings a pot of liquid to the table in front of them, he begins by talking about Jim Jones. Ally says that he needs the four of them-- herself, Winter, Ivy, and Beverly-- to bring his cult to the next level. Kai argues that fidelity to the cause is a stronger backbone as he pours their drinks.

The Kool-Aid though, isn't just for the women; it's for all of his men as well. They need to kill their physical selves to become greater beings to be more powerful for his senatorial run.

He tells them that he will point to whoever must down their drink, and they will go in that order. The first follower he points to bails on it and gets shot by Gary for his opposition to the plan.

The next to receive the finger is Beverly, and she downs her drink. So do the other girls. And then so do all of Kai's men, along with himself. That's when he reveals that there was nothing in the Kool-Aid.
6. Who grabs Oz from school before Ally and Ivy can?

Answer: Winter

Ally and Ivy transfer their bank funds, grab their passports, and throw a couple of garbage bags of items into their vehicle before rushing off to school to pick up Oz. They plan on leaving altogether and not looking back, especially after the Kool-Aid incident. When Ally goes to pick him up though, she finds that their nanny has already done so, and she wasn't alone when it happened.
Oz is brought to Kai's cellar and Winter is asked to leave. Kai lets him play with some games while they discuss his not having a father and quickly, the conversation becomes a pinky promise at Kai's table.
7. Kai informs Oz that he is his biological father.

Answer: True

Ally and Ivy reach the compound and bang on the door to be let in, and when the door opens, Ally slaps Winter in the face and demands to know where her son is. She's pointed to the basement where Oz is being given a cup of Kool-Aid at the table. His mothers try to take him and leave, but Oz refers to Kai as 'Daddy', and Kai reveals that he may have been the donor of the sperm that Ally took from the local sperm bank to conceive their son.
Ally and Ivy make to leave, but they're blocked from going. Ultimately, they have no choice but to let Oz stay the night with Kai.
At home that night, both of them look over their old donor info and contemplate their options. Ally, cool and calm, says that their only option to save Oz may be murder. She has a plan.
8. With which of these is Ivy poisoned?

Answer: Arsenic

Ally forces Ivy to sit down at their kitchen table for some pasta and she pours a glass of wine-- the same wine they had on their honeymoon-- and suggests she's been saving it for a special night. Ally says that with this night they start over.
When she was put in the psych ward, she says, in that first week she had thoughts of suicide. She was in so much pain that she almost did it because of how alone she felt. And then she thought about Ivy and how she left her alone in there without a word. So in the second week she pushed her energy towards freeing herself from her own fears, and to do that she had to fill a hole within herself. And she filled that hole with revenge. On her. She couldn't forgive Ivy for any of it, and the thought of revenge cured her.
As Ivy gets up from the table, Ally reveals that she put arsenic in the wine and the pasta. Ivy falls to the floor in agony as Ally tells her she only wants two things: she wants Oz to herself and she wants to watch her die.
9. According to Kai, which of these is 'fake news'?

Answer: Wikipedia

Kai continues telling the story of Jim Jones, saying that many thought he was a madman for orchestrating his own suicide, but he says that they story didn't end there. Jesus and his angels came down and awakened him, and Jones subsequently woke all of his followers, granting them eternal happiness and everlasting life through their sacrifice.
While Kai's followers eat every word of this up, Oz says he doesn't think it's true since Wikipedia says something different. Kai criticizes him though, and claims that Wikipedia is fake news. After all, he knows things that others don't know, and that's why they're all there with him. Kai ultimately ends up taking the phone from Oz's hands and smashes it, sending him to time-out.
Ally returns to the compound the next day to find that Kai has left with her son.
10. Where does Ally dispose of Ivy's body?

Answer: In Kai's compound

Ally heads to the donor clinic for more information and while the secretary there is initially hesitant about divulging anything due to privacy, she eventually takes a bribe to get the info. When she sees the photo inside the file, it's not Kai, much to her relief. She tells the secretary there's something else she needs to do for her.
That night, Kai arrives at Ally's house for another meal of Manwich. She asks him to open the wine and asks about her son. He says he's been behaving and he talks a lot; there's no filter. He asks who came up with the name Ozymandias and Ally says she did-- it means 'king of kings'. He also asks where Ivy is, and Ally confirms to him that she killed her; she's in the trunk of her car. When he asks why, she says that Ivy wanted to kill him, but Ally couldn't have the father of her child killed. That's when she pulls out the file and shows Kai that he's the father.
Ally tells him that Oz is destined for greatness, like his father.
The two of them haul Ivy's body to the compound and add her to his parents' floor in the rose room, just like he did to Vincent. He sprinkles some lye on her and they leave.
Ally finds Oz in another room with Winter and the two embrace. Kai hugs them as well, saying that they can be a real family.
