Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the debut episode of "F Troop", how did Wilton Parmenter turn the tide and lead his Union Army soldiers to victory in a Civil War battle?

Answer: He sneezed

"The end of the Civil War was near, when quite accidentally, a hero who sneezed abruptly seized retreat and reversed it to victory". Seriously, an untimely sneeze caused Parmenter's horse to ride the wrong way- straight into battle. Parmenter's men followed their confused leader into combat, where they prevailed over the rebels.
2. As a reward for his supposed heroism, where was Wilton Parmenter assigned as commanding officer?

Answer: Fort Courage

The soldiers of Fort Courage are, of course, hopelessly incompetent.
3. Which of the soldiers in F Troop claims to have been the sole survivor of the Alamo?

Answer: Duffy

Given half a chance, Duffy will tell the long, boring story of the Alamo for hours and hours! Dobbs is the world's worst bugler, while Vanderbilt is a sentry who's nearly blind.
4. Which local merchant is in love with Captain Parmenter?

Answer: Wrangler Jane

Frontier girl Wrangler Jane (Jane Angelica Thrift) was played by Melody Patterson.
5. Where do the soldiers go to have a few drinks and relax?

Answer: Pete's Saloon

Sgt. O'Rourke is the real owner of Pete's Saloon. He's a con artist and a bootlegger, but Captain Parmenter is too dim ever to figure that out.
6. In almost every episode, someone quips, "__, I don't know why everybody says you're so dumb".

Answer: Agarn

Agarn always takes it as a compliment. Then, hours later, he'll roar back, "WHO says I'm dumb?"
7. What nickname was Captain Parmenter given, in honor of his alleged military heroics?

Answer: The Scourge of the West

No matter how badly Captain Parmenter fouls up, he always seems to come out smelling like a rose.
8. What foursome of British musicians brought rock and roll to the Old West on "F Troop", almost a century before the Beatles appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show"?

Answer: The Bedbugs

Agarn leaves the Army to become the Bedbugs' manager.
9. Which of the following is not a prominent member of the Hekawi Indian tribe?

Answer: Standing Bull

The name "Hekawi" came from very old joke about an Indian tribe that got lost in the wilderness. According to the joke, a frontiersman who encountered this disoriented bunch of Indians asked "What's the name of your tribe"? And their exhausted chief threw up his hands and said "Where the heck are we?" (Which sounded to the frontiersman like "We're the Hekawi.")
10. How many seasons was F-Troop on the air, and which network did it appear on in the US?

Answer: 2 seasons on ABC

Vanderbilt is almost always up in the watch tower- which means he's the one who nearly breaks his neck every time the tower collapses.
