Falling for "Sex and the City" Quiz

"Macbeth" has blood and weather imagery; Steinbeck used religious and nature themes. This quiz takes a (semi-serious) look at the frequency with which "Sex and the City" characters...fall down.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Sex and the City"'s most famous fall is, of course, Carrie's tumble on the fashion runway in season 4's "The Real Me". Who did NOT play him- or herself in this episode?

Answer: Margaret Cho

Margaret Cho, a well-known and outspoken Korean-American actress, played Lynne Cameron in this episode. Model Heidi Klum, makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, and hairstylist Orlando Pita played themselves.

"The Real Me" first aired on June 3, 2001. Kevyn Aucoin died less than a year later. His short life was all about creating and celebrating beauty. For more about Kevyn, see http://archives.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/News/05/11/style.aucoin/
2. Charlotte's fateful fall in season 3 introduced her to Trey, her future husband. In what episode did Ms. York take that tumble?

Answer: Drama Queens

It's interesting that we say "She fell for him" and "They fell in love". Charlotte did both in this episode. As Trey picks her up from the pavement in front of his cab, we are also reminded of another recurring "SATC" theme and question: "Do women really just want to be rescued?"

(Incidentally, this was one of only two examples of Charlotte falling I could find in all six seasons. Is Charlotte really the most "stable" of the girls?)
3. Miranda Hobbes, Esq. wore her "skinny jeans" and was pushed in the season 6 episode "The Post-It Always Sticks Twice". Where did Miranda fall?

Answer: Bed

Miranda fell into bed at Bed, a trendy nightclub.

Although "SATC" was famous for dropping the names of actual clubs, restaurants and stores into its episodes, "Bed" was fictional. Reality quickly followed fantasy, however, and now there are numerous bed-equipped clubs in NYC.

Miranda had some near-falls in seasons 2 and 3, but all in all her character mostly remained upright...
4. Season 3's "Running with Scissors" had unsafe behavior as its theme. Samantha fell...twice...in this episode.

Answer: True

Terrified by what she feared was a positive AIDS test, Samantha fainted at the clinic. When her test proved to be negative, she indulged in safe(!) sex in a swing, which crashed to the ground.

"Running with Scissors" is also the episode where Natasha falls down the stairs after she finds Carrie in her apartment. (See what I mean about all the falling?)
5. "Sex and the City" viewers saw Carrie fall for Mr. Big again and again. Where were the clumsy pair when they BOTH fell in the season 3 episode "Cock-A-Doodle-Do"?

Answer: Central Park

The romantic Boat House restaurant in Central Park is an actual place.
In the 2004 Zagat guide, it earned 25 out of a possible 30 points for decor, placing it in the top 50 citywide. Carrie and Big never got to eat there, though, as their date was cut short by their tumble into Central Park Lake.
6. When Carrie agreed to go on a "sim-u-date" with graphic designer Willie Applegate in "To Market, To Market" (season 6), the predictable happened...he fell. How did it happen?

Answer: A pigeon landed on his head

Willie was interested...Carrie wasn't. He fell, she watched. I guess that pigeon wasn't a lovebird!
7. Party girl Lexi Featherston falls out a window and dies in season 6's "Splat", surely the most ungracefully named "SATC" episode. Who played the unlucky Lexi?

Answer: Kristen Johnston

Kristen Johnston's most famous role was that of Sally on "Third Rock from the Sun". She was fabulous as the coke-snorting, Manolo-tripping Lexi. Pat Field was "SATC"'s costume designer, Cindy Chupack co-wrote the episode, and Candice Bergen played Enid, Carrie's editor at "Vogue".
8. Along with dominoes, who fell in season 6's "The Domino Effect"?

Answer: Samantha, on the street

Steve hit his face and got a nosebleed, but he didn't fall down, despite his shock. Samantha fell from the street into an open delivery bay full of vegetables because Smith tried to hold her hand. Samantha...falling for a guy! It finally happened.
9. When Carrie falls downstairs in "What Goes Around Comes Around" (season 3), she views it as:

Answer: Karmic retribution

Carrie: "Natasha fell down the stairs, now I fall down the stairs!"

(Of course, the other three answers, while not seen by Carrie as causing her problems, still might have some merit.)
10. One way or another, Carrie fell down in each of these episodes. (TOLD you there was a lot of falling!) In which one was she NOT outside?

Answer: An American Girl in Paris (Part Une)

In Paris, Carrie falls inside the Dior boutique. We can see this many different ways...has she "fallen" out of love with pricey clothes, with Alexsandr, or with Paris? Is it an omen, or just every fashionista's worst nightmare?

In the other three episodes, Carrie falls outside...into the net under a flying trapeze, into the mud in Suffern, and (my favorite) into Alexsandr's arms in the plaza outside Lincoln Center.

I hope this quiz has not fallen short in its attempt to fall all over itself to get you to fall in love with "fallen" imagery. (Ouch. Can you believe I'd write that for you to read immediately before you rate my quiz? I must be setting myself up for...you know.)
