This happened in the pilot episode. Marshall was so excited that Lily had said yes that when he tried to open the stubborn cork on the champagne bottle, which he inadvertently had pointed in her direction; the cork finally came out and hit Lily in the eye. At least she'll remember that day for many years to come.

Lily was cranky because they had taken her kindergarden class' naptime away. Since she naps when they do, they took her naptime away too.

He was so devastated that he ran outside and it just so happened that a man was passing out fliers for a new suit store and the flier's headline was "suit up". He decided righ then and there that he would become a whole new Barney; turning into the Barney we all know and love.

Ted and Marshall made fun of Barney throughout the whole episode. Ted even called the bar asking for Swarley. Later in the episode, the girl meets Robin and messes up her name as well. Barney tries to run with it by making fun of Robin, but the others didn't think it was as funny as Swarley.

They were at a restaurant when they both noticed the blue french horn and Robin made a comment about owning a blue french horn. Later in the episode, Ted tried to make up for scaring her by telling her that he loved her on their first date, by running into the restaurant and stealing the blue french horn, and surprising her with it.

A few episodes later he decides that he will try one last time with Robin, so he books a string quartet that has blue instruments, sort of in honor of the blue french horn.
