Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Modern Bayside Estate' in Point Cook

Answer: Serena & Sturt

Serena, who frequently claimed to be one of the top reviewers of AirBNB, put up her Point Cook residence outside Melbourne for only $300/night and the expectations couldn't be higher. Unfortunately, her house ended up falling flat with the guests who noted the general lack of cleanliness and the sparse local amenities in the Point Cook area. Serena and Sturt, in retaliation, gave other houses consistently low scores, especially those who followed them in the second grouping of houses.
2. 'Sleek Queenslander' in West-End Brisbane

Answer: Terry & Anita

'Loved-Up Couple' Terry and Anita, who lived next door to their AirBNB (to the surprise of their guests), put up their Instant Hotel as a 'Zen' retreat, offering up a 10-guest establishment for only $595/night. What put guests off, however, was the significant cleaning fee of $360 on top of the cost-- a fee they never removed for the final round.

They got the highest score of the second group despite being the first to present their house. They ultimately won the season against Babe and Bondi in the final round.
3. 'Chic Beachside Apartment' in Sydney

Answer: Babe & Bondi

Mother and daughter Babe and Bondi outfitted a modern, yet eccentric apartment in their minutes-from-the-beach Bondi Beach house (yes, the daughter shares the name with the beach) and it was the fourth hotel visited in the first group. It also ended up being the winning Instant Hotel from the first group, mainly due to its amenities and its affordability.

The pair were also given high grades for their gem of a backyard which, when revisited in the season's final round, ended up being upgraded to include a glamping tent.

The house, notably, was themed around margaritas, the pair's favourite drink.
4. 'Suburban Mansion' in West Pennant Hills

Answer: Mikey & Shay

The final Instant Hotel visited in the season, Mikey and Shay's place in Northwest Sydney's West Pennant Hills certainly proved to be a mansion, but it was revealed that the AirBNB aspect was somewhat tacked on and only applicable for the residence when it was not occupied by Mikey's parents who, while definitely well-off, still lived there with all of their expensive belongings. Additionally, as part of their house rules, Mikey and Shay required that guests feed the multiple cats in the house and the fish and turtles in their in-house water feature.

It was the lowest-rated destination of the show.
5. 'A Class Act' on the Murray River in Mildura

Answer: Bec & Tristan

Bec and Tristan had, perhaps, the most unorthodox Instant Hotel of the bunch because their residence was a houseboat on the Murray River outside of Mildura. Visitors got the opportunity to wakeboard with Bec, a professional wakeboarder, and greet the new day on the water.

While many of the guests intentionally tried to cause problems for the homeowners, Bec and Tristan's houseboat was considered a highly worthwhile experience. They placed second along with Lynne and Simon in the second group.
6. 'Top End Hideaway' in Humpty Doo

Answer: Adam & Kathy

Adam and Kathy's 'Top End Hideaway' was the first Instant Hotel visited in the series and while it obtained one of the lower scores from the first grouping, it was still better-received than most of the second group's locations. In addition to having tons of space to fit eight guests in five bedrooms, the property, built on more than five acres, had a beautiful pool. Guests were encouraged to go see the local 'dancing crocodiles' before eating dinner at the Great Northern Brewing Co., a local pub.

The hotel placed fourth in the first group.
7. 'Tropical Hideaway' in Port Douglas

Answer: Brent & Leroy

Leroy, who spent the first four Instant Hotels asserting his knowledge of Instant Hotels and his interior design background, talked up his home before it was the last visited of the first five, and what resulted was heightened expectations. While guests enjoyed their night's stay and the local area, they were let down on most other fronts and, along with Juliet, the official judge, they believed the decor and style inside were dated, especially since the Instant Hotel was in a suburb next to a busy highway. Brent and Leroy's Instant Hotel had the lowest score of the first group.
8. 'Unique Retro Home' in The Barossa Valley

Answer: Mark & Jannine

Mark and Jannine's 'Unique Retro Home' didn't seem like much on the outside, but when visitors entered the front door they were bombarded with an overwhelming retro aesthetic; the house was filled with curated goodies from 1950s America from pinball machines to classic Coke dispensers to diner booths.

At $800 per night for eight people in four bedrooms (two of which were communal areas), this wine country Instant Hotel turned out to be the second-highest rated destination of the season.
9. 'Villa Verona' on the Isle of Capri

Answer: Lynne & Simon

The penultimate Instant Hotel of the season was Lynne and Simon's AirBNB on the Isle of Capri in Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast. Fitting up to eleven visitors in four bedrooms, the ultra-modern house was clean, chic, and featured a beautiful pool.

The local amenities, so close to the Gold Coast, spoke for themselves though the visiting teams were a bit put-off by the choices in activities they were given. Ultimately, some groups gave the place high grades by a couple rated intentionally low, sinking Lynne and Simon's place to second (tied with Bec and Tristan) in the second group.
10. 'Beach House Retreat' in 'North Byron Bay'

Answer: Sam & James

The third location visited by the season's first group of contenders, Sam and James' property, quite the distance from Byron Bay in New South Wales, was a surprise to the amateur hoteliers, mainly because it was not only owned by the couple (it was a family property, but because it was also quite a distance through a swamp to the beachfront. To their shock, the property also ended up being a former cult headquarters.

The hotel placed third in the first group despite being the most expensive hotel on the entire season by far (at $1,500 per night).
